Guest guest
Wow! That is scary stuff. The direction of this country lately is really scaring me. Everything including the care of our own bodies seems to be sounding more and more like "big brother". Thanks for sharing Alana. I definitely will not be using that vaccine and will strongly discourage everyone else I know from doing so. Guest guest
info - swine flu vaccine - Let's all take a breather and recall some history. The first mass U.S. vaccination in 1976 was a total fiasco. Some 40 million took shots against a pandemic that never materialized. At least 25 died as a result of the vaccinations and 500 developed paralyzing Guillain-Barre syndrome. Lawsuits flew everywhere. Is there any reason to believe it will be any different this time? Yes. Under the 2006 Public Readiness and Emergency Preparedness (PREP) Act, the U.S. government, in declaring an AH1N1 pandemic, has granted near total immunity to all vaccine makers. Those who are harmed or whose children or loved ones die as a result of the AH1N1 vaccine have no legal recourse whatsoever. http://www.northstarwriters.com/ct174.htm
Guest guest
I for one will not be getting this vaccine or giving it to my children. Although the swine flu seems to be hitting this area now - from all indications it is really no worse than the regular flu, and we are exposed to that every year. It kind of gives me the feeling of the oral polio vaccine, and most of us here should be old enough to remember the results of that. This is just too untried and tested for my comfort. Guest guest
It has been a relatively mild illness over here as well. I am not sure if I do want to be vaccinated or not, as they hvae said it could mutate over summer, and be far more virulent when it returns in autumn. But then the flu jab last year made my asthma so much worse, and I still haven't been able to reduce my medication back down to what it was prior to having the immunisation. Mum is a nurse but has never had a flu jab. She has also never had flu.. Jenn Tha can tek t'lass outta Yorkshire...! Don't brand me, don't classify me, don't tell me what to wear. I'll be who I want to be, and I'm proud to be me. Guest guest
My 2-cents worth: Every doc I've had who treated my asthma advised against my getting a flu shot. Did have the flu once when I was younger (back in the 1950s), but haven't ever had it again. (Probably shouldn't have said that!! lol). There was a flu that went around in the late 1960s, too--and a widespread innoculation program was launched. I was working at a high school and free shots were provided, but on my doc's advice I didn't participate. A few weeks later, my co-workers were sick as dogs. Two teachers were hospitalized and the Dean of Girls nearly died. But every strain is different, so it's really hard to decide what to do. --marty On Friday, August 28, 2009, at 08:33 AM, A Hill wrote: > Â > > <image.tiff> > > > start: 0000-00-00 end: 0000-00-00 >
Guest guest
I never get flu shots because I really don't know what's really in them. Plus, I've seen my mother get them, and she's been sick as a dog. My father is insisting that I " need " it, but quite honestly, I rarely get the flu. Other than asthma and the occasional migraine, I'm in relatively good health. Â He is also insisting my daughter get it, but she too is rarely sick. I know flu kills, but that's usually for people with weakened immune systems. I'd rather take my chances with the flu than the flu shot. Guest guest
Same here - I will do from now on. As well as asthma, I have lots of smaller things, but nothing that is going to make getting flu more risky, and as you, apart from all teh small things (joint problems, raynauds, suspected IBS etc), I am healthy. I went right through high school, then 6th form (7 years) without a day off ill. But then it runs in the family - mum has an absense record as good as mine, and although my sister did not maange a year of 100% attendence at school, at most she had 1-2 days off a year. Dad whinges whenever he gets a sniffle and thinks he's dying, but that's just men for you!! I graduated from uni last summer, and they say that students tend to have the strongest immune systems because of all the different people and germs they come into contact with. I pretty much went straight from uni to working in schools, and again, teachers tend to be well known for having good immune systems because of the number of kids they are in contact with every day! Guest guest
I'll beat you. I have never had the flu. I've had some stomach viruses and such, but never full blown flu. My docs won't give me the vaccines either. Not the flu or the pneumonia.
