I am sure your knee-jerk reaction is to call a security company and have an alarm system put in. It would be mine. Did he break in? "Jules" Romero -- *[DownSyndromeInfoExchange] We were just awoken to a horrible scary thing. Our little dog barked and I woke up to a man standing over our bed. I starting screaming and my husband woke up and chased the guy out of the back door. He Went through my purse and stole some cash out of my husbands wallet. Our little phoebe was asleep on the couch and right next to the guy as he went through my purse. I am scareder than I have ever been. Guest guest
We live in such a rural area and have always felt safe. Our doors were unlocked (never again), and that’s how he got in. We’ve been on a big electricity saving push and have turned off all of our lights outdoors and indoors. We will light the house up like a carnival from now on. I have lived in dangerous areas of Houston, Dallas, and Beaumont and never had someone break in and stand over my bed. We live in a rent house so I am looking at alternative security systems that are not so permanent. I praise the Lord he did not hurt us, or take Phoebe off the couch. The kids will sleep in our room for awhile. I managed to go to sleep about 7 AM and just woke up now. The kids slept in bed with me and hubby slept on the couch to guard against any fool that might come back. I had a nightmare there was a huge cobra snake in our house and we could not find it. I told my husband I wanted to learn to shoot a gun. At least in Texas we can still do that. The police are putting our house on special patrol. He said it is very unusual that someone would actually come into the house while were sleeping and he seemed worried. You know it’s bad he the police man is scared. Guest guest
Oh, that is such a violation to have somebody in your home like that. We had a burgler almost a year ago, my dogs were barking and I thought there was some animal in the back yard (we have a steady stream of possoms, rats, and raccoons here) I went down to shut the dogs up and heard him in the kitchen! It was a runaway teen and when the police came they told me he had been hitting 3-4 houses a night in our area. I was really mad I didn't know about it...we stupidly left our back door unlocked and I would have been more adamant about checking it if I had known! I told everyone I knew and tWO MORE of my friends were hit within a week! One's teenage daughter walked in on him during the afternoon, she couldn't go into the house alone for a long time after that. It took me several months to sleep well again, and I still check every door and window every night. --Thank God for those barking dogs! , Mom to 14, DS, Southern CaliforniaTo succeed in life, you need three things:a wishbone, a backbone and a funny bone.~ Reba McIntyre Diagnosis Down Syndrome: A Site of Hope for New Parents or Parents with a Prenatal Diagnosishttp://www.leeworks.net/DDS/What to Say to Parents of a Child with a Diagnosishttp://www.leeworks.net/DDS/speech.html *[DownSyndromeInfoExchange] We were just awoken to a horrible scary thing. Guest guest
That is really scary!!! I am so glad he did not hurt Phoebe or you guys. You just never know. I keep my 'Baby' our poodle in the house, I call her my alarm system. If it weren't for her I'd never know if someone came creeping inside our breezeway, even though it is gated sometimes the kids do not close it, and anyone can come to the front door and not be seen. I don't know if you remember or not about 'Polly' the young girl that was abducted from her bedroom while her parents were asleep. That came to mind when I read what happened to you and your family. Take care and keep a close eye out. smom "Where there is passion and a fire burning in your heart, there is hope..." "I cannot do everything, but still I can do something." Guest guest
We asked about fingerprinting, but the police said it was too hard to get them off of textured surfaces. It seemed like he did not want to be bothered with that since no one was seriously injured, and it was just petty theft. We are in a rural area with the closest house about 200 yrds away.  My husband is going by the local hardware store today to get extra flood lights and some alarm gadgets for the doors and windows. Guest guest
Are your neighbors aware of what happened? Perhaps along with an alarm system/cameras(my mom has 2 cameras) you could start up a citizen patrol in your neck of the woods. smom " Where there is passion and a fire burning in your heart, there is hope...
