Guest guest
The September affect refers to the spike in asthma during the last part of August and first of September. This article is from last year but I feel it has good information for any year. Here is the first part of the article and the link to the full text. Every September in Halifax, a fundamental change occurs in the respiratory health of children. Asthma returns. Asthma is the most common chronic disease of childhood. In Canada, as many as 15 per cent of children may have asthma. It is a very seasonal entity in kids; each summer, asthma presentations fall off until August, which is the slowest month of all. Then we hit September, asthma's busiest month, probably because of autumn allergens and back-to-school viruses. There are peaks and valleys over the next 11 months, usually associated with cold and flu seasons, but September, the month of the official end of summer, marks both the beginning and the peak of the season of pediatric wheeze. http://www.cbc.ca/health/story/2008/09/17/f-weeklycheckup-asthma.html
