stockpiling meds

Hi everyone,

I get worried about running out of my thyroid meds in an emergency. I'd like to

have a month or so back-up in my freezer, just for my peace of mind. I have

refills left on one Rx I got from one doc, and then another written Rx from

another doc (for the same meds.) If I try to get both of these filled at

different pharmacies will I run into trouble with my insurance company? Thanks

for any input you have.

You just need to tell your pharmacy not to run it through your insurance. If you are getting Canadian Thyroid, you can use a pharmacy that allows you to fax your own script and retain the original. It may or may not be legal to reuse it at a different pharmacy, but no one is cross-checking scripts. . . . .

Having been through an Armour shortage, I would consider anything less than six months worth to be courting disaster.

I do not recommend freezing thyroid at all.

For refrigerator storage, it needs to be in an airtight container with a fresh dessicant pack. Allow it to come to room temperature before opening to keep moisture from rushing in when you open it. I would suggest refrigerating only factory sealed bottles and not returning them to the fridge once they are opened.

I have stored it for over a year at cool room temps away from moisture and light with no ill effect.
