Guest guest
I work in a hospital (IT, not medicine). Of all places, hospitals SHOULD be a model for healthy eating. You would not believe what our dining room served for lunch today. sloppey joe on a white hamburger bun (most likely made with commodity ground " beef " and not even green pepper or onion cooked in the mix) potato chips Seabreeze " salad " (some kind of yellow jello concoction with canned pineapple, topped with whipped topping) chocolate chip cookie Can we say YUCK! Is there anything nutrition in this meal? Guest guest
I have a story about hospital food..... I had an unavoidable surgery this winter, and when I could eat " real " food again, the nurse came in and had a long talk with me about how important it was that I eat a fiber rich diet now. I listened and agreed totally with her, ready to increase my fruits, vegetables, and whole grains. The next morning, breakfast came: Cream of wheat, white bread french toast with Promise margarine and sugar syrup, some 1% milk, coffee and dairy free creamer. I was about to buzz her and ask how I was supposed to follow her instructions about fiber, or even heal for that matter, with this assortment on my tray, when she entered the room smiling. " Sorry, I forgot your fiber. Here it is. " and she handed me some Senakot and Metamucil. Thank goodness I got to go home SOON!!!!

Guest guest
> ----- Original Message ----- > > > I have a story about hospital food..... Gotta love their interpretation of increasing fiber! Several years ago, I ended up in the hospital with pneumonia. This was just shortly after I began changing how I eat. I was nowhere near where I am now, but I was starting the process. Anyway, I simply could not eat the food they were serving. It was horrible, and I didn't have much of an appetite anyway. So the second day (after trays going back nearly untouched), the dietician came to my room, put her hands on her hips and asked, " What WILL you eat???? " After some quick thinking, I asked her to make a smoothie. I was thinking, " How badly can they mess up a smoothie? " She didn't know how to make one, so I told her to just take a cup of milk, a banana and some frozen fruit and blend it together until smooth. I emphasized over and over - do not add any sugar. So what did she do? She used sugar-sweetened frozen strawberries! Thankfully I got to go home the next day!
