time out/behaviors

Hello all,

I have a couple questions for the list. I am an in-home therapist for two

sisters. One 5 1/2 moderate to severe the other 6 1/2 mild to moderate

(PDD). We have tried on many occassions to use time-out with the older less

severe girl and it only seems to escalate her to having a total and complete

melt down. She melts down to the point where we just cann't get her out of

it. Can anyone give me any suggestions on how to make time-outs work more

effectivly or any other behavioral interventions we may use, such as cause &

effect or anything else.

Another issue we face is in some of her communication, that relates to

behaviors is the way she talks to people when she wants something and is

upset about it. She will often times yell at us or use a rude tone of

voice. If we try to redirect this with, " it hurts my fellings when you talk

like that, or you aren't using nice words " , it seems all she hears is blaa

blaa blaa. Any suggestions on how we can work on this. simply witholding

the demand may work but, it leads once again to a complete and total

meltdown that she cann't be pulled out of.

Last question does anyone know of a website that has behavior pictures

instead of just nouns. Maybe something that is more action oriented.

Thanks in advance for any suggestion. You can email me privately
