Guest guest
Dear , On behalf of all our members, welcome to our Erythema Nodosum Group! Thanks for sending in your Questionnaire. I have added the information to our " Member Medical History " Files on the Group site and posted it below. You now have Full EN Group privileges. You are receiving EN Group emails, and you can also go to the EN Group site whenever you like: http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/erythema_nodosum_Group/ and logging on with your Yahoo ID and secret password. You do not have to have the group emails delivered to be a member here. You are quite knowledgeable about sarc. and EN. Hopefully you have Lofgren's syndrome, which will have a good outcome. As you probably know, when EN is the presenting symptom of sarc. it is " usually " a sign that the sarc. will go into permanent remission within 2-3 yrs. This is no guarantee, just the textbook case. I know quite a few who didn't have such a fortunate outcome. I live in Orange County CA., and yes do get checked for Cocci. http://www.emedicine.com/radio/topic179.htm We have members here with sarc., cocci and EN, so you have come to the right place. Welcome! Love, ****** Landini's Case History 2/3/06 1. Your name and age: , 43 2. Your location: Ventura, CA 3. Your email address: mgalileo2000@... 4. Your Yahoo: ID M_merced2000 5. Describe your erythema nodosum/PG symptoms or, if you do not have EN or PG, please explain why you wish to join this group. I was diagnosed with EN two weeks ago. I am a VERY active person who runs 3-5 miles per day, hikes, climbs, ride my bike and generally is ext, takes long extended trips to remote backcountry locations, and in general is extremely fit. After returning from a five week trip to climb Mt. Aconcagua in Argentina, I resumed my normal work and weekly training schedule. Up at 4:45 AM, run 3-6 in the morning, at work by 10:00, off by 4:00 and run, bike or climb in the evening for an hour, light vegetarian meal for dinner, in bed my 9:30. This is very routine for me, and I have been training with a similar schedule for many years now. One week after returning I broke out on my legs with bright red bumps. I had absolutely no other symptoms. The bumps got bigger and hotter and even though I had no other symptoms, I knew something was not right, so I went in to have it checked. The doctor immediately diagnosed EN. We went through a long list of questions to try and isolate the possible cause. I was given a chest x-ray which revealed great looking lungs, but slightly swollen lymph nodes. I was then referred to a Rheumatologist, who has been monitoring my progress and prescribed Naprosyn. I was told that my condition was likely caused by sarcoidosis, and was self-limited and would likely clear up in 3-6 weeks. I was concerned that I may have Cocci, a fungal infection which also causes EN, as I am in a very high risk group, spending lot's of time in the South West deserts, given that I was asymptomatic, and because of the slight swelling in my lymph nodes the doctor seemed to feel that Sarcodoisis was more likely than Cocci. I was told that testing would be more appropriate if/when symptoms occurred. One week after diagnosis, I became VERY symptomatic, with fever, fatigue, malaise, night sweats, and severe swelling in my feet and ankles. I also now have a dry cough. the cough is very mild, but there. In my follow-up to the doctor I was told these symptoms were quite normal and that the severe swelling in my legs, ankles, and feet could persists for weeks. In addition to the 500 mg of Naprosyn that I am taking twice a day, the doctor also perscribed Colchicine .6 mg twice a day to see if this would reduce the swelling. After one week, feel much better. Fever is gone, generally I have more energy, but the swelling is still quite severe. The bumps themselves have now completely flattened and look more like bruises, that cover my entire legs. My legs, ankles and feet are still quite swollen. I am scheduled to continue with the medication through next week and then I have a follow-up scheduled. I am also planning on scheduling time with a herbalist and acupuncturist and to discuss natural and/or homeopathic remedies. 6. List any other health conditions. None. Very fit and extremely active. 7. State what medications or treatments you take for EN, and their effectiveness: Please see #5 above. 8. When did you first get erythema nodosum or PG? Two weeks ago. 9. How long have you had erythema nodosum or PG? Two weeks. 10. Do you agree to treat all EN members with respect? Absolutely! 11.Do you agree to post NO advertisements for any products or services? I agree 12. How did you find this Group?
