Guest guest
I tutored my 3 yo PDD/autistic granddaughter for three months using a floortime/sonrise approach. During this time she learned to point, wave, take me by the hand to request, brought objects to me to show, and she said 52 words, after starting at 3.0 with only 4 words. But of these 52 words she only used about ten of these a day. She is in a public preschool now and seems to be regressing. She cries easily and was wailing when she had to leave our home after a visit on Sunday. She only uses about four different words per day now. When I picked her up for OT one day the teacher and aide were teaching the 5 NT children around a table while the two autistic children, my granddaughter and a 3yo boy, were over thirty yards away, unattended and zoning out. I was very upset and yet can only do so much as the grandmother. We were not in the picture for the first three weeks of school and will soon begin to tutor her for about five hours one day a week, we would do more if we were invited to do so. What can I do to help her say more of the words she has previously verbalized? Is it possible for me to use AVB methods in isolation? I have encouraged an ABA approach or more intensive floortime approach, but I do not have the right to implement.
