Guest guest
Hi, my name is Beth, I'm 53 years old and I live in Carrollton. I am completely new to all of this and feeling a bit overwhelmed reading some of the past posts. I went to my family doctor yesterday for a normal yearly check up. My mom had said that she thought it looked like I had a goiter in my neck. Sure enough, after an ultra sound yesterday, I have a goiter and nodules. I am going to Dr Bickert, Ear Nose and Throat Dr., tomorrow for new patient appointment. I have been told that he may do a fine needle biopsy. Have a family history of thyroid problems. My grandmother had her thyroid removed, my mother had hers removed a couple of years ago and my sister just found out this fall that she has Hypothyroid. Anyway, any comments, recommendations of things that I need to be asking for and/or looking at tomorrow, would be appreciated. Thanks in advance!! Guest guest
Hi Beth, If the doc says they're going to manage your situation with meds, it's always a good idea to ask 1) the specific names of the blood tests they will use; 2) what is the goal, in terms of your blood test results. For example, do they simply want your results to fall within the reference range for each test? 3) How often will those blood tests be run? Thyroid disorders can be highly individualistic and usually require some time to get to a good place. However, some doctors have a cookie-cutter approach. How and what your doc says in response to your questions will help you determine her/his approach. Share what the doc says here and experienced folks will chime in with what they've learned. good health, kidbobo > > Hi, my name is Beth, I'm 53 years old and I live in Carrollton.
