a,

Did you send your labs to Dr.K? His fax number is on his website.

The reason your calcium is normal is because your PTH is high and

doing its job of putting calcium into your blood from where ever it

can find it like your bones and your intestines.

I forgot to tell you what I take: Centrum (regular) once daily.

Kirkland Calcium with magnesium and zinc. Citrocal at night. Beta

carotene three or four times each day, 25,000 units. That works for

me as my Vit A is back to normal, and my magnesium and zinc (did we

measure that?) are normal. So is everything except my PTH.

Marta

But I know my best knowledge comes

I also take chews and tums, whatever suits my fancy at the moment.

Citrocal is calcium citrate and I take it at night when my stomach is

empty since the acid is less then. I also buy orange juice with

calcium in it. That is a recent addition. It isn't really many

pills, only two or three or four doses each day. The chews, etc, do

not feel like medication since they are more like food or candy.

I believe Dee said (at the May meeting) that if your parathyroid is

out of whack and your calcium level is normal it could mean that

your body is leeching calcium from your bones in order to keep the

calcium blood level normal.

This is right, I was leeching pre op from my RNY...No wonder I had

compression fractures in my back!! If your calcium in the blood is low, you can

have heart problems, so the body will try to regulate it this way....Our bodies

are amazing aren't they?

, you are correct! The purpose of parathyroid hormone is to get

calcium into the blood stream. How or where it comes from, well,

that is a moot point when it is life-threatening to have it drop

below normal. Normally, calcium uptake from the gut also increases,

but in us, well...you can see where that could be a problem.
