Guest guest
Dear Sondra, I found your response to my question very insightful and helpful. If you don't mind, I'd like to forward it to my daughter's teacher because what you explained how you felt about an 1/2 hour after taking Buspar might be what is experiencing. We are reducing her daily dosage to 15 mg. to see if this helps. Thanks again, Re: Re: Buspar --lynn > from the type of self injurious behaviors she might be to have much > pressure of headache/sinus pressure and to be to dig at inner nose areas she > might be to think she can be to relieve the pressure as she might be to be > communicating I to be to have a sinus pressure by this digging and pounding, > can be medications related or allergy to something or just awareness to the > sensations. Guest guest
also to remember if you daughter to be hyper sensitive to things she might need only a 1/4 to 1/2 of what typically others would be to take as autism can be tricky with medications for this. You may use this . Sondra
Guest guest
Hi again, Sondra, I'm not sure if I told you that after speaking with my daughter's neurologist yesterday and telling him all the behaviors we have seen increase since she was on the Buspar, that he reduced her daily dosage to 15 mgs instead of the 20-30 originally prescribed. I did what you said today...let her do her normal morning routine and eat and gave her a 5 mg dose of Buspar before she went to school. I even sent in an extra snack so the teacher could give it to her when she got to school. Even before she took her morning dose, she started with an obsessive-compulsive motor activity....she had to keep running back to the doorway from where she left, tap her foot, and then move on. However, it got pretty intense and I had a really hard time getting her out the door to get on the bus. She got very upset, started hitting her nose with her palm, then stuck her fingers up her nose (but it didn't bleed this time) and then hit the window with her hand. I have noticed that within 45 minutes of taking the Buspar, she gets very emotional, then starts the squeezing of her hands to hurt them, banging her nose, putting finger up her nose to make it bleed. Then after this intense time, she'll get very silly, giddy, and happy. At this point, I'm not sure if these are bad side effects that mean she can't tolerate this medication or side effects that will go away with time. Guest guest
the odd things you to share is she to be to escalate before taking the medications so it might not be medication related and could be sinus like infection or allergy like things causing the nose to be itch, tingly and feel as though things to be crawling around in it I to be to get this way when allergy to things begin to escalate for me. The moody things within the 45 minutes of the medications is maybe her adjusting to it and may need more time since they are to be to reduced it wait another 3 weeks and if this does not work ask the doctor hims/her thinking on trying tenex with her.or low doses of paxil, I to be to find this combinations tend to help some of the kids I to be to work for but not all. Remember though they usually need low doses of things. and as they balance and are doing well do not let them increase the meds. If she is balanced and improving, more meds can create a back fire to her progress and her body might be to reject the medications altogether. This is from my experience and from many others parents sharing to me on medications. Have you got new pet, or bought something new to the home that she could be reacting as allergy too, new detergent, new carpet, anything you can recall? Guest guest
Hi Sondra, I think you may have misunderstood what I told you about . Before the Buspar, she was grabbing, pinching, squeezing and sometimes biting her teachers which would come out of the blue without any demands being placed on her. Since the Buspar, she has only lightly grabbed her teachers,BUT, she has been self-abusing herself with the nose issues and the obsessive-compulsive stuff have increased dramatically. Today, at the end of the day, she became aggressive and scratched one of her teachers as he was trying to redirect her away from her compulsive walk to get ready for the bus. I do agree with you about starting out slow and at a reduced rate and have decided to try 5 mg twice a day for the next three days. Luckily, we are getting into the Easter break, so I can better observe her during this time. Thanks again, Re: Re: Buspar --Sondra > the odd things you to share is she to be to escalate before taking the > medications so it might not be medication related and could be sinus like > infection or allergy like things causing the nose to be itch, tingly and > feel as though things to be crawling around in it I to be to get this way > when allergy to things begin to escalate for me. > The moody things within the 45 minutes of the medications is maybe her > adjusting to it and may need more time since they are to be to reduced it > wait another 3 weeks and if this does not work ask the doctor hims/her > thinking on trying tenex with her.or low doses of paxil, I to be to find > this combinations tend to help some of the kids I to be to work for but not > all. Guest guest
you to be saying that you child used to be much more aggressive to others when off the buspar and now on the buspar is less aggressive to others but more ritualistic self abusive issues are not present that are just emerged or more pronounced. Although the nose digging one is new and since start of the buspar. Did she to be to ever do this before the buspar or only after the start of it. If she to be to have this before the start of the buspar but has become more pronounced since taking buspar it might just be to mean she is adjusting and is so hyper sensitive that the flighty feeling it gives causes her anxiety in the beginning of the absorption of the medications into the system and she to have no way to communicate it except through behavior. Other things can be in play that is not even medication related, she may be to have a change in things at school that is frustrating her and she again is not able to share, if she is limited in words or expressions she might just be so frustrated and is lashing out more. How old is she to be? I to be to forget this. I do be to know that often we to be to cycle into rapid swings of moods and even I to be to have no answers why I to be to do this and is hard on all in the family but I to be to have told my children's often enough that this is a part of Mommies autism that she to wishes did not exist and that it has nothing to do with them , and that I to not be angry with them or anything they to be to have done . They respect my space when I to be cycling. The little girl I to support in school also does this and it is hard as everyone to always think there has to be a cause to be to get her so upset and sometimes in true there is no cause just as in my self. We just wake up in moods and are sour in moods much of day for nothing are we angry over but we feel very irritable maybe lack of deep sleep patterns, maybe a food sensitivity but in true will never for me really know. If it is days of this then best to give her down time and space and reduce the expectations and let her give what she can without stressing her. She might be to need a FBA to see if there to be triggers and or issues creating the aggressions with in her setting. If this medications to not work might ask the doctor of the Paxil and tenex.
