bad news for me

I am so bummed. After a lengthy appt with my urologist..he has declared it

would not be safe for me to continue to train hard enough to complete this

year's NYC marathon. I did a 3 day urinary test (collected it all) and blood

tests and apparantly I have major calcification issues putting pressure on my

kidneys. It may get to the stage where I will need long term meds to control

it.

As for now, I can work out but not a marathon training intensity. I am banned

from drinking coke (which is ok because I havent had a sip since I was admitted

to hospital on May 9th), and I am on a strict diet. The next few weeks will be

several appts with kidney and urology specialists.

I am really upset I cant do the auction. I am sure this stone problem is a side

effect of the DS..but I still have no regrets. Just bummed that one of my goals

is now on the backburner..

Kristy

P.S Feel very petty worrying about this while is in such a state..I am

very glad for the health I have.

drinking an average of 13 1/2 cups of fluid a day cut the stone risk

9 cups a day cut the risk by 20%

Women wo got the most calcium from foods (1300 mg) had a 27 percent

lower risk of stones than women who got only 540 mg. Calcium

supplements had no impact on risk.

Jo,

Add to that the fact that she is exercising hard traioning for her marathon,

Dehydration might be an issue even with the reccomended amounts of fuids. In

her case I bet they would reccomend and even higher amount of fluids than

those of us couch potatoes....
