Hi , I'm Jen, the originator of the " Having trouble coping "

post. When I wrote that on Saturday, I was in a very bad place,

probably at one of the highest levels of pain I've been at with my

back, or with my Fibromyalgia for that matter. I was also very near

my breaking point, as the pain was going up and up, and I was

getting virtually no relief from meds.

I don't get to that point often...in fact, I think that's the first

time I've ever gotten tha close to breaking down from pain.

Usually, I'm a pretty upbeat and positive person. My higher pain

levels are typically intermittent, but I live with at least SOME

pain every day. I never really actually thought of doing anything

to myself, but just got a clear understanding of what could bring

people to that point. I don't know what I would do if my pain was

at that level 24/7.

My illness is " invisible " to people as well. With Fibromyalgia,

there are no outward signs that anything is wrong, and a lot of

people still hold the opinion that it's a " garbage " diagnosis. I

tell those people to walk a day in my shoes before they pass

judgement on me, or my pain. My back problems show up on an MRI,

but aren't really treatable. I'm not sure I'd want to have surgery

anyway if that were an option. I've heard too many stories of

failures for my comfort.

Thanks for saying that you understand my pain. No one has ever said

that before, and it means a lot. Welcome to the group, and I hope

to get to know you better.

All my best,

Jen

I think the reason that a group like this is such a good thing -- is that we can

come " here " and know that other people will understand our pain. They already

know what living with pain day in and day out can do to our energy levels and

our ability to work, play, visit, travel etc.

People used to describe me as " vibrant. " They don't do that anymore.

This pain thing sure does know how to knock the " vibrancy " out of me.

I think you guys will understand what I mean by that. <grin>
