Hi Annette,

It all really depends on the quality of the teaching. Many group classes

for kids with autism do not have nearly the high quality that Debi

described. When my daughter was three she went to a special ed preschool

that did very little for her, it used very little 1-to-1 instruction, no

ABA, they spent 30 minutes in circle time with each kid having to say hello

to each other kid, my daughter would fall out of her chair, then they

started strapping her in as a " safety " measure. (Duh, she was bored out of

her mind).

The kind of intensive intervention our kids need usually involves giving

our kids up and trusting other people -- even if involves 40 hours per week

in your own home. Parents I know run videocameras down to their basement

workrooms to watch their kids' home programs! It is really hard as a parent,

especially when they are such little kids and can't tell you much. It is

normal to feel a loss, and be upset about the separation.
