Guest guest
My liver doctor’s office has each patient complete a questionnaire on most visits. I call it “The Suicide Survey” and crack the nurses up when I say it. It asks questions like………do you feel that you are not as good as other people? Did you cry more this week? Do you feel unhappy most of the time? You get the picture. I asked a nurse once…….Do they think if I am going to kill myself, I’m going to write it down here? She said you’d be surprised, but they are very proud of the fact that they haven’t lost a patient yet………either good pre-screening or careful tx – my guess is pre-screening. But I think if they required a psych clearance, then they should allow you to proceed if you’ve gotten it. Maybe the key is not a new doctor at the same clinic, but a whole new gastro practice if that’s possible for you financially. Guest guest
Like my husband said if it got to the point to where I needeed to be put on the tx they would have already done it. What I don't understand why would they even talk about me being put on the tx if i did not need it. The more I read on these digest the more like I feel I have Hep. C all over again because I did not know that there were so many issues that could go along with this diease. Looking for last minute shopping deals? Find them fast with Yahoo! Search. Guest guest
What do you mean, you feel like you have hep c all over again? If you have it, you have it honey... Im not sure what you are saying... Yes, there ARE so many 'extrahepatic' issues with this virus.. Im sorry that your docs and health care did not explain all this to you.. Some folks believe that everyone should treat no matter how much damage they have or how fast its moving along.. I respect all choices because this is something that each person must decide for themselves.. I've seen successes, I've seen lots of relapses,, I've seen people who have had their virus mutate FROM tx,, and I've seen other's who've chosen not to treat and are trying to take the best care of themselves that they can... This virus is so different, and we all have many choices,, its not like having cancer or diabetes where you MUST treat it NOW... so in some ways, it makes it harder to decide.... Guest guest
I see a rheumatologist for my rheumatoid arthritis and a neurologist for my peripheral neuropathy, both which are highly likely to be as a result of the HCV. I see an ophthalmologist for the eye problems – also a possible HCV connection. Then there’s the usual cast of characters – GYN, cardiologist, dermatologist, ear doctor, radiologist for mammo, sonogram………….the older you get, the longer the list gets! Guest guest
I can only speak for myself but what I've heard correlates with my own story,, most gastro's will ONLY treat the hep, they WONT prescribe other meds for the side effects such as severe body pain, or insomnia, depression etc, so most of us have our primary care person handle the side effects... I've even heard of some gastro's telling the patients that this tx is not so bad and if they feel so awful, then stop the treatment rather than give them meds to help the side effects... Guest guest
That's horrible! My G.I. Doc prescribes my Celexa anti-depressants, lactulose, lasix, spironolactone, prevacid and inderol, and various sleeping aids. He carefully monitors my monthly blood test results, and calls me if anything is of importance. He's probably not well known, but he reads all the current researches, is very knowledgable about all things " inside " the body. He is somewhat humorless, but has smiled at times. My wife and I truly appreciate all he has done for me. He even referred me to a great heart transplant team, which I made an appointment for and visited. That's a just in case item, but having been there, I feel more relaxed if a transplant ever becomes a reality. My PCP defers to my GI Doc, but they do discuss my case back and forth, sharing insights to my physical and mental states. Guess I must be one of the fortunate few. Course, he's my 2nd GI Doc, after leaving this other pompous ass of a Doctor! I like the bood idea, btw. Can I ask why would u see other different doctors while seeing the liver doctor like the gastro. Guest guest
I’ve actually found that my rheumatologist is the brightest one of the bunch and knows more about what’s going on with me than all the other ones combined! He’s a terrific doctor, is understanding and is always responsive if I have a problem. Guest guest
, I guess I was lucky. My Hepatologist at Cedars in Los Angeles treated the Hep C and everything else that came up. Made it much easier. I do know that as stated here that many people have to go to different Docs to treat the sides. I am grateful that I did not. Steph Never miss a thing. Make Yahoo your homepage. Guest guest
My first gastro did not even see me. One of his practioners did, unless I presented a problem and she did not think that any side I had was a problem. She would dispense scripts for anything, tho. The second one actually took the time to see me, but until I told him how ai felt, treated me like a piece of paper with a number on it. He also did not believe in dispensing any other meds at all. My family doc did, tho. I knew to keep the other meds at a minimum so that the liver could concentrate, but was sooo happy to get at least a sleep med. It still, at this point, remains to be seen if I have reached SVR Sharon in NW WashingtonAll I have seen teaches me to trust in the Creator for all that I have not seen.
