Medicare as don’t want to pay the $93.50. Benefits for signing up

I remind them that Medicare Part B is a resource for a living donor, the donor

gets coverage if they have complications following transplant on their Medicare

Part B if it is related to their transplant. Also, it is a cheap back-up

insurance if their group should disappear. CIGNA requires enrollment in

Medicare A & B and after 30 months they will not pay a claim without a Medicare

EOB. Tricare requires enrollment in Medicare Part A & B if eligible too. There

are more companies that require enrollment if eligible. Pt needs to be sure he

is comfortable taking the risk of not having Medicare A & B. If they do not

have this at time of transplant they are not eligible for Medicare coverage for

immunosuppressive drugs at age 65 either. Bev Larson

Medicare and if not the Medicare D will cover the meds.

transplant patients that come for a pre-transplant evaluation? We are having

Not to change the subject, but, what code do you all use for pre-renal

transplant patients that come for a pre-transplant evaluation? We are having

some issues with this and need to have some clarification. Bev Larson

some literature but have not actually

come across this situation.

Medicare for Transplant Patients with Group

Health Insurance

Currently having a number of transplant patients with group health insurance

being quite resistant to signing up for Medicare as don't want to pay the

$93.50. Benefits for signing up explained in details as well as what happens if

they don't sign up and then have a Medicare covered transplant.

Just curious as to if other financial coordinators having similar experiences.

If yes, does anyone have these patients sign if they choose to not enroll in

Medicare that the benefits have been explained to them as well as issues for

them if they don't enroll explained?

All our pre tx workup have dx code V7283, other pre surgical eval.

The Nephrologist uses code 99244 and the surgeon we uses code 99205.
