Hi Fi, and welcome to the Group! The Group has only been around since

7/2003, so we are still fairly new.

I'm sorry you are having such a protracted EN episode. It sounds like

you have some sort of autoimunity issue going on. Besides EN, what

other symptoms/disorders do you have?

The Group has poll questions regarding hormones and stress:

http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/erythema_nodosum_Group/polls

About half of those who answered feel stress is a factor. Feel free to

answer all our poll questions. If you have a suggestion for a new

poll question, let me know and I will be happy to set it up.

I hope this most recent EN episode is over for you soon.

Love,

Hi

Thanks for the welcome.

This is what the diagnosis letter from the doctor to my GP says:

" She has a number of low titre antibodies, including low titre anti-

cardiolipin antibodies, low titre IgG anti-gliadin antibodies. She

has detectable thyroid peroxidase antibodies, but in an amount which

is not clinically significant and has a positive anti-nuclear antibody

titre 1/160 also with a positive antibody on hep 2 cells, which is

relatively specific ENA's, rheumatoid factor, cryoglobulin and ANCA's

etc are negative. Thyroid function tests all fine " ...

" This lady has an auto-immune diathesis manifesting as recurrent

erythema nodosum. This forms a spectrum disorder within the

connective tissue disease spectrum, although she would not fulfil the

criteria for a connective tissue disease " ..

Not sure what all of it means. He goes on to say that I have a 10

fold risk of developing auto-immune thyroid disease and probably a 10

fold increased risk of developing a connective tissue disease in the

guture although typically these are mild.

If I develop Raynaud's, photosensitivity etc I need to go back.

I don't have any other disorders, other than the erythema nodosum and

no definite symptoms that occur prior to an outbreak. All I can say

though is that a stressful situation came to a head and was finally,

after many months resolved, on a particular thursday last december and

then the early hours of the friday morning the erythema just came out

really badly, as if the final release of all the stress had given it

permission to come out. I'd had the one mark since about july/august

but nothing else. So i do think that stress for me can be a trigger.

Years ago I used to notice my legs would ache for a couple of weeks

and then it would come out, but now I dont notice that as much.

I have got some oesteoarthritis in my knees, more so in my right but

whether there is a connection there I don't know.

It is great to find somewhere to talk to other people about this after

all these years.
