What state are you in? Alanna is placed under what is called the Naples Law.

The aide is provided through a private outreach business, however the district

paids for the aide and for the supervision of the program.

Let me know if I can help you find out more.

Re: Hello

How did you get an aid in a private school? My daughter is in a

private school and has a very small class of 17 so i hate to move her

to a public school where classes are larger....our district claims it

is illegal. karen

If they would provide her an aide in the public school setting, according to

Naples Law, then she should be provided with one in the private school setting,

as long as that setting is deemed appropriate. Since she has already been there

for sometime and progress has been noted, then it is appropriate.

After doing a search I can only find reference to the Naples Act in the state of

NJ. Not sure what the codes are like in ILL.

Does the district pay her tuition? Not to be too personal over the list, but

just trying to see if they justify that the placement is appropriate, you may

have a reason for them to justify an aide, even if on a temporary or part-time

basis.

the class is good to her, and it is small (17 students), the private

school has a 2nd grade aid, so the district did not provide one this

year. It is a catholic school and it is our religious preference so

they do not pay the tuition. however they are required to provide for

her. right now they try and make it difficult by bussing her twice

weekly to the local public school. very annoying. they have about 6

students here at the catholic school, but they won't let the specialist

come to us. karen

I don't know about your state, but in TN, especially in the 0-3 age

range, there is a big push for " naturalized settings " for therapy.

Perhaps there might be some similar language that you could use, but

I'm sure that, short of lawsuit, you can talk them into such a thing.

We also have a big Catholic disability organization that provides

services for those with disabilities. I know a woman who works at a

Catholic school and they encourage disabled students to attend.

Good luck,

Debi

Kassiane, I'm in Springfield...but I graduated high school in peoria

and my mom lives there still. How is the school district there with

special needs kids? How old is your child? -mom of 8 yr old Kara

>>

I am the child *grins*. 20 and AS. The district is OK, some parents are

happy some arent. Its a pain to wrk for the people around here, the

special ed districts, but theres a special school for kids who need it

and stuff, so it could be WAY worse.

Yep, I survived.

Are you telling the class about her AS? Is she involved? One of my big

things lately is devising the " right " way to do a disclosure

presentation for a kid....invovlement is key =)

Still climbing those mountains,
