Guest guest
I've always felt that was part of the plan. When I look at successful bodybuilders or others who reach low body fat (a lot of individuals have done this with the Leanness Lifestyle and Get Lean systems) they all have one thing in common: zig-zagging calories. Not the one free day per week, but day in and day out. LL actually requires that you compute a zig-zag. Now, BFL builds this in using fist and palm sized portions, so you don't have to worry about it! That's where I think the program fails people. It was DESIGNED so that one day you have a fist-sized apple and another day you have a fist-sized potato. The calories/carbs in each are vastly different, but that helps " trick " your metabolism - you have high calorie days, low calorie days, and everything in between. It's when you start eating the EXACT same menu day in and day out, or try to force a specific amount of calories on the system, that you lose this " built-in " aspect. > I actually think that 1600-1700 is a better range for me, but I don't > want to eat too much and not lose fat. That's one thing I don't like > about BFL... I want someone to say " eat XXX calories a day " . > Fist-sized and palm-sized portions are open to a LOT of > interpretation! >
Guest guest
BMR is a guess at best. I'm 5'10 " 27 yrs old 195 pounds. My BMR is probably up there. Right now I'm consuming ballpark 1700 calories a day. Next week I'll be consuming 1500 calories a day. CRAZY? Maybe. But I've leaned down to low single digits body fat in the past, and this is how I've done it, and over the years I've seen a net GAIN in muscle, not loss. Keep in mind, however, I typically consume around 2800 calories. I only drop the calories for a short 2 - 4 week period, then it's back up to the higher level for a few weeks or else I would get burned out and my metabolism would crawl to a screetching halt. > Wouldn't 1600-1700 calories be way below your BMR which would put you > at risk for losing lean muscle? > > Have you checked out your BMR to get an idea of the amount of > calories you need just to maintain your weight? > > Andy >
Guest guest
We did the water displacement for the fist, so I can have just under a cup and my son can have just over a cup of the carbs. I have trouble with portions, so I needed something a bit more exact. > I actually think that 1600-1700 is a better range for me, but I don't > want to eat too much and not lose fat. Guest guest
Maybe I'll try that approach... How do you calculate your BMR? I should add that I typically don't count calories every day. I am only trying to gain perspective on why I'm so hungry, and quantifying my caloric intake is but one of the tools I am using. Guest guest
BMR is only an estimate and there are several online calculators. One is at http://www.hussman.org/fitness/bmrcalc.htm This will give you an idea, but don't count on it to be 100% correct.
