Guest guest
Try the every 3-4 hour protocol instead of the every 8 hour protocol. Many people get worse on every 8 and then get better on every 4. Andy > my son's headbanging has been steadily increasing in past few weeks. Guest guest
Give him some prevacid or something to reduce stomach acid - that always helps my son. His headbanging diminished after GI problems were adressed. I think DMSA can be irritating for the stomach lining for some children. Guest guest
If he's taking ALA, you might cut that out to see if it improves. When I did ALA, I had such a horrible headache for weeks that I felt like banging my head into cement just to make it go away. Backing off on dosing might also be a good idea and perhaps trying the every four hour protocol. Also, if he's doing better while on the chelators but then declines on off days, consider reducing the time between " on " rounds. My son did best with only five days off in between. Guest guest
How did you address his GI issues. Thanks. Guest guest
Vera, My son is having an endoscopy in a couple weeks to look for ulcers. Did you treat for H.pylori after the ulcers were detected? mv@... wrote: > We did endoscopy, it showed ulcers. > > My son is on a special diet and he took prevacid > for long time. Guest guest
My son was tested negative for h.pylori. Our GI thinks his ulcers may be allergy related. Guest guest
> My autistic son, , recently started banging his head for no reason - not frustrated, not upset. For my #3, this meant he was getting too much B12. Do you give B12? It can also mean yeast, or phenol intolerance. > Anyone have any ideas? The only time he's been a real head banger before was when he was dumping copper too fast...Maybe the new supps are dumping copper? This is possible. > WHAT DO PEOPLE GIVE FOR HEADACHES? I know we can't do aspirin/white willow bark (salicylates) or tylenol (sulfation issues), but I haven't been able to find dye-free Motrin locally. I use the adult version capsules or caplets [which I crush]. They have fewer salicylates than the children's liquid. Dana

One thing I've found is that when he's having a yeast flare he is totally unable to listen to what I say or to behave respectfully -- it's just like having a belligerent drunk who happens to be 5 terrorizing the household. What I do now is speak very gently to him, saying he has to go to his room when he's feeling this bad. He understand that his behavior is not OK (the poking, pestering etc) but since he can't stop himself he winds up feeling terribly guilty about it, so the less critical I am the better. I try to keep it simple and unemotional. It seems to work a lot better that way. Nell
Guest guest
Dear Dana, Thanks for your reply. Actually, we're on a break from B12 except in his B complex... He is really raging right now, too. If I say " no " to him at all, he goes off on a tirading monologue against himself like " I said NO!!! THAT IS NOT OK. YOU NEED TO LISTEN!!!! YOU DO NOT PINCH!!!!! etc etc etc... " He wants the top of his head rubbed. Overall, he is acting much more " autistic " than he has in a while. Not listening in general, not responding to questions unless we ask him to focus. I'd appreciate any further insight. Thank you so much! , mom to and Re: HEADBANGING > > > My autistic son, , recently started banging his head for no > reason - not frustrated, not upset. > > > For my #3, this meant he was getting too much B12.
