Guest guest
I have a nine year old son, soon to be 10, and he has had a moustache (it's not real noticeable...looks more like dirt) since last fall. Freaked me out, too! I kept trying to wash it off--found out that doesn't work. :-) My dr. said not to worry...all kids, not just kids with Ds, are starting puberty earlier and earlier and he's not TOO early to be concerned about. We've adjusted to it--as long as it doesn't come in fuller, darker, etc... Jill Mom to Mac (9, almost 10, 4th grade, Ds) and Kit (6, K, Ds) [DownSyndromeInfoExchange] Precocious Puberty I am freaking out a bit here because I have noticed that my daughter Sophia (will be 8 in May) has some pubic hair. I noticed a couple a few weeks ago but thought maybe it was just random. Now, it seems like more is growing. I researched a little online and it looks like there may be a link with thyroid and early onset of puberty (precocious puberty), at least in kids with DS. Has anyone heard of or experienced this? There are all sorts of other reasons for precocious puberty but those are even scarier. I am going to the doc for her check-up next month anyone. Last year, her TSH (thyroid) was okay. When do we get to stop worrying
Guest guest
,My daughter will be 10 in May. She is non- DS but was a premie. She started getting pubic hair at age 6. She does not have precocious puberty.Lots of children nowadays are starting puberty earlier. It can start between ages 8 and 14.I am freaking out a bit here because I have noticed that my daughter Sophia (will be 8 in May) has some pubic hair. Guest guest
He is a very handsome young man! My boys have a friend who is from Pakistan, and when he was 12, he was very proud of his mustache and the fact he HAD to shave. It's really not that all uncommon. I have no idea about little girls though. All my kids are late bloomers, so I am hoping that will follow suit and I think she already is because her teeth were late coming in, and now very late in coming out, just like the rest of my kids. My 15 year old still has more than a couple of baby teeth and none of my boys need to shave every day! Even at 22!!! Her older sister didn't start her period until she was 14. So I am holding out hope. And you NEVER stop worrying about your children, in fact you start adding kids to worry about when they take a spouse and have grandchildren. ;-) Carol in IL AIM doihavtasay1 GigaTribe doihavtasayMom to seven including , 7 with TOF, AVcanal, GERD, LS, Asthma, subglottal stenosis, and DS.My problem is not how I look. Guest guest
The endocrinologist told me 8 is not precocious, but within the normal range. Pubic hair is first, then underarm hair. At about 70 lb the ovaries start to function. When underarm odor starts to smell like an adult, he said to start expecting the first menstuation. I think it is about 3 years from first seeing pubic hair till menstruation, of course everyone is a little different. But, girls with DS seem to follow the typical patterns of development as far as puberty. ette mom to Faith (10)DS -------------- Original message from "jessspiz" : -------------- I am freaking out a bit here because I have noticed that my daughter Sophia (will be 8 in May) has some pubic hair. Guest guest
I have been wondering about this subject with my 8 yo daughter (not DS). She has had underarm order for at least a year and now has a little hair under one arm. It is strange because she is so tiny and little girlish. I researched it a bit and 8 is still within normal range, apparently (she is turning 9 in July). a Mom of Nicolas, 6, DS
Guest guest
ok, i have to throw in my 2 cents. my girlfriend has a daughter (typical dev) and at 5 years old was having smelly armpits. She did alot of research and tied it to the milk she buys at the supermarket (forgot the brand). It was the hormones the farmers gave their milk cow's to produce more milk. She switched to Oberwise (hormone free, etc. milk) and it solved that issue. Bit more expensive but it was worth it. I heard a doctor stating with all the additives our livestock is given in order to produce more meat, milk etc. its affecting our kids and their growth pattern. We are what we eat. Guest guest
We switched to hormone free milk and cheese almost 2 years ago and it definately slowed down all the puberty changes. It also tastes better. ette mom to Faith (10)DS -------------- Original message from vibby3@...: -------------- ok, i have to throw in my 2 cents. my girlfriend has a daughter (typical dev) and at 5 years old was having smelly armpits.
