We are a renal pediatric facility located in South Texas and we have a

mother who would like to be worked up as a donor, but she is not a

legal resident of the US. Is this possible? (The father is a legal

resident but is self-employed and the only income in the family so he

does not want to go through the evaluation.)

Hi,

Medicare generally does not care if the

live donor is not a US

citizen. The concern is the potential live donor’s ability to be

cared for if during the evaluation process a problem is discovered.

Hope this helps,

Thanks,

Bill
