This is a great question that I have for someone out there who can help me? At

your transplant centers, who gets the authorization for the hospital admission

when there is a transplant? Is it you as the Financial Coordinator, or does the

Patient Account Reps. obtain the hospital admissions for the transplants? I

know the FCs get the transplant authorized. But I am solely speaking about the

hospital admission.

I, as the TFC that obtained the preautherization, call the insurance companies

at time of admission. When prior authorization has been obtained, you can call

the next business morning if needed, so there is no need for me to be on call

for the weekends.

The hospital reps take care of the nurse reviewer if need be, or to obtain

additional days if needed, but I take care of the initial admission

authorization.

Hi All,

I am the TFC for the BMT dept here @ CHOA and I too obtain the authorization for the in-pt admission. After that, our UM dept follows up with the case managers for extended auths, discharge plans etc..

I do the verification of benefits for the transplants as well get the authorizations for the transplant patients admissions. Also, if a contract or LOA is required, I get the agreement arranged between hospital and insurance contracting person and present the offer to our V/P of Reimbursement for signature.

I follow the patients from the first evaluation interview to post care as long as the patients require my services.

I work the solid organ and bone marrow transplant accounts.

Gee, after reading over all of this I do stuff, I think I need a pay raise.

At Inova, the TFC gets the Tx admission Auth, unless registration (Patient

Account Reps) is first to obtain it (on weekends for example, via internet, or

before the on call nurse notifies the team.). Usually, when they see " Tx " , they

do not touch the acct. But because it may involve global agreements, the TFC

notifies the Tx case manager and precert dept, and double check the account

(Insurance plan and guarantor, Auth, etc...in IDX).

Hello All,

This is a great question that I have for someone out there who can help me? At

your transplant centers, who gets the authorization for the hospital admission

when there is a transplant? Is it you as the Financial Coordinator, or does the

Patient Account Reps. obtain the hospital admissions for the transplants? I know

the FCs get the transplant authorized. But I am solely speaking about the

hospital admission.
