Guest guest
Why wouldn't you think this would be considered a "complication" or related to the donation? Unfortunately in this business a "call" has to be made and I would consider it a complication. I think in some situations a determination has to be made for the good of the facility and this would be a classic case, even if the Transplant Center rights it off as part of good business. I think you would have a hard time arguing this with the patient and it may not be worth it. My opinion,... Hogan Transplant Financial Coordinator Lahey Clinic 41 Mall Rd. The diagnosis was confirmed by UA, culture and labs, the on-call partner of her donor surgeon was consulted, and she was admitted overnight for "conservative" tx given her donor status, and an elevated creatinine from her baseline of 1.1 to 1.13. We don't think this could be called a complication of donation for purposes of KACC and Medicare B coverage. Any opinions to the contrary out there? A touchy business as you might imagine, b/c the donor instructed the admitter to "bill her brother's coverage." Guest guest
Hi Pat, actually I lean toward your way of thinking for the same reasons, so I put this out to the group to gather some outside input to share with my team. But I do have a nagging feeling about it, b/c medically no one is saying her UTI was caused by donation. For example, what if it were some other illness that provoked the rise in creatinine? Or if this had come up say 8 months post-donation, instead of 2? Thanks for the feedback. on Financial Counselor Legacy Transplant Services Good Samaritan Hospital 1040 NW 22nd Ave Ste 480 Portland OR 97210 toll free fax lmorriso@... -----Original Message-----From: TxFinancialCoordinators [mailto:TxFinancialCoordinators ]On Behalf Of Hogan, Sent: Wednesday, September 05, 2007 5:13 AMTo: TxFinancialCoordinators Subject: RE: donor complication Why wouldn't you think this would be considered a "complication" or related to the donation?
