Hi,

I didn't see the original post from Gaylen, but I can tell you something about strabismus, because my older, NT daughter had surgery for strabismus in Dec. 1999. In her case, she was complaining of double vision and headaches.

Last summer, I believe it was Andy posted on this list that strabismus could be a sign of mercury toxicity.

Kira was still complaining of double vision, even though the surgeon was telling us her vision was "perfect" now. Then I started thinking about some of the other symptoms she had. In particular, lack of growth, trouble concentrating (she's actually academically gifted and the teachers were telling me it was because she was "just bored") and fine motor problems. Since Amy Holmes is following Kenny, I got in touch with her and asked her if she thought I was just looking for trouble or if we should also get Kira tested. (Kira was born 12/28/89 -- right before the introduction of the mercury vaccines.) She told me we should get Kira tested, and sure enough, we saw the same scattering of essential elements from the hair test. We started her on the DMSA, and have done one urine test so far (am waiting for the second results right now) and that showed her to have very high tin. Amy says they are seeing that in a LOT of girls, and that after the tin comes out they begin to see mercury.

I am noticing with Kenny that the chelation seems to be affecting his vision.

He seems to be having real difficulty seeing things.

I am also chelating myself because of fibromyalgia (and I had 4 amalgams which are now gone). I have been noticing in the last week that I feel as if the light is VERY bright, and I want to shield my eyes, which is exactly what Kenny is doing too.

Gaylen After I got my partial records back from the doctor, I saw she wrote in eyes not tracking. Do you know if this have anything to do with strabismus? thanks , kelly

You got defrauded by a fake eye doctor - an ophthalmologist. They are

MD's who spend a few weeks studying how the eye works and 3 years

studying how to cut on it. They aren't eye DOCTORS. They are eye

SURGEONS. They always want to find surgeries to do - strabismus

surgery being a lucrative one. Especially since they usually repeat

it several times because it doesn't work.

What works is vision therapy. Optometrists do this. They spend time

learning how the visual system works instead of how to slice and dice

eyeballs for profit.

My younger son, who is not autistic, had strabismus and amblyopia. He had corrective surgery at 10 months of age because the strabismus did not respond to patching. We patched for about 3 months, maybe even a little more. I also got a second opinion. The amblyopia resolved from patching. My son is now 3 years old with excellent vision in both eyes and they are straight, where they are supposed to be.

my $0.02. My daughter's strabismus DID respond to patching. The doctors should always try that first.

If this post was directed at me because my son did have the surgery, I do agree with you. You should always try to patch the good eye first. We did that with my son as I stated. Why would anyone want to just jump into surgery??? Surgery was done because the strabismus did not respond to patching over a period of a few months.

I'm not an eye expert -- only going from what I've learned in working with my

son, other kiddos and our visual training person but I do know it can be very

difficult to track things if you have a strambismus since a strambismus is

one eye turned inward or outward. However, it is also possible to have

difficulty tracking without having a strambismus. I find this in alot of

autistic kids I've worked with often because their overall visual development

is delayed and they tend to be hyperperripheral (seeing better from sides

rather than straight ahead). Metals can also throw off tracking. Cleaning

up the body, doing tracking exercises and building maculur (forward and

detail vision) can help this alot. Also, getting both sides of the brain to

work together is also important. We've found that Brain Gym activities or

crosswalks can help with this.

It is my understanding that much of a strambismus is neurological or brain

oriented rather than the eyes themselves. That's why some kids'

strambismuses appear to come and go and they also get worse when folks are

tired, toxic or sick. It would also make sense that she'd need to retrain

her brain to see out of both eyes together even after the surgery. How is

she at tracking and converging her eyes? Tracking is where you following an

object with both eyes and converging is the eyes working together -- as an

object slowly moves into your face, your eyes should come together -- when

they pop out, you're no longer seeing the object or you see double. My guess

would be she needs some help with convergence though I'm no expert in this

area. In some cases, the brain double inputs too so then you're dealing with

more than just visual processing. I know of one girl who used to see

numerous copies of scenes she'd seen in the past superimposed on what was in

front of her at the time.

Our neurodevelopmentalist recommends visual tracking and convergence

exercises along with patching for strambismus. The patching can help with

the brain's shutting out visual input in the turned eye and the tracking and

convergence exercises get it moving. Megson's CLO protocol along with

cranial sacral seem to have a bigger impact on correcting my son's though.

I'm also not an eye expert. I had " problems with eye teaming " .

(Does that sound like tracking? I'm not sure.) Also light sensitivity

and abnormal " place of rest " and big tendency to converge too much.

Probably other stuff too.

While cross-crawl and vision training helped, in at least SOME

areas, I've made more progress in a month of chelation than in

9 months of vision therapy. Go figure.

By the way, I owe the list an apology: In spite of my convictions

otherwise, testing by my eye doc showed that my distance visual

acuity is THE SAME as before. I just THINK I see better. Or

something like that. (Please note that caveat applies only to

distance visual acuity, which is ONE aspect of vision. There is

ABSOLUTELY no doubt that the way I process 3-dimensional movement

is RADICALLY different than before.)

best,

Moria

p.s. If there is anyone else on the list who has personally

experienced a change in their perception of 3-dimensionality

and how objects MOVE relative to each other, could you please

contact me off list?? ESPECIALLY if it changed from chelation!

Gaylen,

Thanks for your thoughts. I think Kira is OK with tracking. She used to have trouble with the convergence. I haven't tested that for a while.

She's been chelating since October and hasn't really said anything about double vision problems recently. Now she's just complaining about lots of headaches. She did say she was having difficulty seeing the board in the classroom, but when I took her in for an eye check, everything was fine. (I trust the optometrist -- she is a family friend, and was the one to spot the strabismus when we were taking Kira to another doctor.)

Right now our plan it to just hang in there until we see we've got the metals out, and then address any remaining vision issues. From the looks of her last test results, it may be a while.

When I was very toxic, my vision problems would come and go too. Sometimes

being in certain places would make it worse -- especially ones with

flourescent lighting, perfumes or new stuff like stores.
