Kathy,

This was my situation just a year or so ago. I had been giving a cpap

machine in the 80's, but using it terrified me. That was during the time

when they had the ones that covered both your nose and your mouth. The

one I have now only covers the nose and the tech at the sleep lab helped

me learn to wait until I was really sleepy before putting the masks on

and then when I first get it on to use a system of really deep breathing

until I could regulate the anxiety and relax enough to fall asleep. Now,

I find that I am sleeping much better. The relief that I receive doesn't

last me all day, but I at least have a little more energy when I awake

in the morning.

Good luck, and don't give up hope.

PLEASE TAKE THIS ADVICE! I tried to go it alone and I've been fighting

since 2001. I finally got the picture and hired a lawyer at the end of

2002. Social Security is a tricky place to deal with. They don't even

care if you have received benefits in the past. I was on SSI from 1994

until 1996 when I was discontinued because I married a man with a REALLY

good job. When I finally needed to get back on, they have been giving me

the total run-around. It drove me to a suicide attempt, so please don't

try this alone. Spend some time while you're waiting for your initial

decision to research lawyers, that way when the letter comes, you will

be prepared and not grasping at straws like I was.

God bless,
