Guest guest
Rhonda-- I think you should only do this under the advice of an MD. Changing anti-virals, stopping, starting, etc. could be asking for trouble. You are dealing with drugs so they can be dangerous as much as they can be beneficial. Adding something like LDM on a mildly stressed liver may not be wise. Everything will be processed through the liver. You do not want to cause resistance/mutations (I'm not sure that can even happen but Goldberg mentioned it to me and it freaked me out). Did your MD say to go up to 4x/day?? That may be too much. I'm not trying to freak you out at all b/c I don't know much about anything but I just want you to make sure your under the guidance of an MD. LDM kicked Di's ass--I don't know if I would add it to a stressed liver. Their detox organs are working hard enough. Are you on any support. I use Liver Life and Yasko's organ support. Subject: Should I change anti-virals?To: mb12 valtrex Date: Thursday, June 5, 2008, 5:52 PM My two sons have been on 250mg 3x/day of Valtrex since February. WE had an initial 60 day healing regression, but then behaviors leveled off. No new gains, but no regressions either. I have gotten lazy giving them their meds lately and was off of Valtrex for 3 full days and had only gotten 2 doses for about 2 weeks instead of three. Both boys became regressed, crying a not, more stimming. So, I put them back on it 3x/dasy and they seem to be having another healing regression. I did kick up the Valtrex to 250 mg 4x/day and they seem to be having rashes and slight fevers again. My doc won't go up to 4x per day b/c my younger's liver enzymes are trying to sneak up (only 3 points), i just did it on my own to see what would happen. Tried OLE and it didn't do much. I have ordered LDM-100. I feel they need some kind of anti-virus, but I don't know which one to use. Should we keep Valtrex AND do LDM-100? What do you think? Guest guest
I do *not* recommend going up to 4x a day. You need to not get lazy when taking antivirals. This can lead to virus mutation and that's not good for anyone. Also, just because you aren't seeing gains doesn't mean it isn't working. You won't see a steady progression of gains - if that were the case we'd all have typical kids in very little time. Check titers, if titers are negative then you do trials to see if they still need it. Obviously your child does if you pulled it and he regressed. I would switch antivirals only if you aren't seeing titers go down or if you have been on it for a very long time, but you haven't been on it that long so a switch probably isn't warranted without checking the titers. It's not just the titers you are looking at, you want to see NK cells, IG's, etc. Antivirals is not about whether or not you are simply seeing gains, you aren't treating the symptoms of autism, you are treating the immune system. If you're younger son's enzyme levels are going up, jumping up to 4x a day is even more dangerous.Honestly, I think it's best you stick with the Valtrex for now before trying to add anything like LDM 100. I think you need to level out on Valtrex and stay consistent before you try to add anything and I wouldn't do it without speaking to your DAN. Again, I can't stress this enough, stop the 4x a day. Zovirax is given 4 to 5 times a day, not Valtrex.CherylMy two sons have been on 250mg 3x/day of Valtrex since February. WE had an initial 60 day healing regression, but then behaviors leveled off. Guest guest
Rhonda...if you are going to do the RX drugs I really think you need a doctor who is VERY familiar with them and their side effects etc...why not let testing determine if the valtrex is doing what it should. These drugs esp the antifungals are nothing to play with...we pulled them in Matt's case despite the fact that we saw gains bc we were nervous about some liver issues and not in the care of a competent dr to do the liver checks...so we stopped. We may have to revisit them but will only do so in the care of a good dr who really knows antiviral therapy like Goldberg. LDM100 completely kicked my ass..I am still recovering as are the kids and who knows where this intervention will take us....it is really too soon to tell or recommend...I would absolutely NOT introduce it in asddition to valtrex - I think it could easily overwhelm. There may be others out there doing that sort of thing, but I cannot imagine it. Wew stopped everything to do the LDM and plan to rotate antifungals for a month or two and see where that takes us. Put your energy into diet, doing the protocol you have picked ofr the time that has been recommended, and you should know, even if Stan doesn't...WHY his kid got so well so fast...DIET with the drugs...DIET....spinach...natural chelator, beef also natural source of ALA, pecans manganese and boron the best neutralizer of candida overgrowth bc candida grows in direct proportion to a deficiency in those two things...and honey - enzymes and healing to the digestive tract....Put your energy and your ABA into geting those foods into your boys and some fermented foods like kefir water, goat milk yogurt as in the SCD if they can handle it...gut and " butt " ....DO NOT INJURE THE LIVER. Support the LIVER. We are using Liver Life right now to try and do that...look into your own health and what you are eating as the burn out and spaciness you feel is probably bc of stuff in your diet - that is always the case with me....eveything that applies to your boys applies to you as well....heal your gut, normalize your stools, cut out the crap that is keeping you from being effective, and it is going to get better. IT WILL. Do not go throwing MORE at your boys, esp more drugs with side effects that you cannot anticipate and potentially cannot reverse. Cheers. Guest guest
THank you, Cheryl. I am not, nor will I continue doing the 4x per day. I will stick with the Valtrex at 3x per day for now. I am worried that the virus has mutated since I lapsed. I hope not. For now, I will keep trucking along on the Valtrex, consistently. Yea, I was under the assumption that the gains should have been consistent. I had their immune function tested back in Novemeber before valtrex (pulled antibody levels) and they said all looked fine. I am not sure that was the correct test or not. But neither have been sick since starting the Valtrex and my oldest, famous for 105 fevers every time he gets sick, hasn't had any. I don't have a DAN, just a willing doctor friend who doesn't know how to treat them. But helps me out when asked. I would love to take them to one, but it would have to be out of state and my husband just lost his job. So, we are alone in treatment right now. When we can, we will get under a doctor for treatment. Thanks Cheryl, I appreciate it. Rhonda > > > My two sons have been on 250mg 3x/day of Valtrex since February. Guest guest
CHeryl already told me not to be going up so I won't be. We don't have a DAN doc. Just a friend (nurse prac) that doesn't know anything about treatments for autism. I will have to travel outside of the state for a doc. I plan to, just not right now. My husband lost his job last week. So, we will just keep going on the valtrex 3x/day and hopefully we will get to see a doc soon. THanks for your information! Guest guest
Thanks Di. I will be heed your advice. I am just starting the BED diet for the boys. The YCK has already done wonders for my youngest son. His eczema has all but disappeared after just one day. I am culturing veggies right now. We are on SCD diet and will " mix " in the principles of the BED, just no grain right now. Thanks for your help and great advice! I appreciate it. Guest guest
Yea, I'm glad I asked you all! I will definitely heed your advice! We are going to save for a trip to see Dr. Goldberg. I hope it will be sometime this year, but it may be next Spring, depending on the job situation. Thanks for your help! Guest guest
Rhonda, since you're already used to no grains, stay off even seed like grains as with quinoa/millet. I choose to do this in the beginning of starting BED and it proved a good decision for my son. I also do the antiviral protocol as often as we can. It's mostly healthy fats and vegetables, a semi fast. I used ABA to implement BED and in the long run saved myself a lot of time and money because my son got better requiring less therapies. BED teaches step by step. It's easy to get caught up in wanting to try it all to help our kids, but it's a step by step process so you can determine what is helping and what isn't. Work hard on diet first so that the body can handle a med as necessary. The liver and gut need to be functioning well. Hope your cvs turn out well! I just made a batch today too. > > > > > > From: rhondamasengale rhondamasengale@ > > > Subject: Should I change anti-virals? > > > To: mb12 valtrex > > > Date: Thursday, June 5, 2008, 5:52 PM > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > My two sons have been on 250mg 3x/day of Valtrex since February. > WE > > > had an initial 60 day healing regression, but then behaviors > > leveled > > > off. Guest guest
Just carry on and try and stay calm...I missed doses and just got right back in right away...we pulled bc we saw some liver stuf we did not like and I agree that the gains can plateaue and then resume...but focus energy on making them go to the bathroom 3 xs a day, eating a diet that nourishes THEM and try to get some fermented foods in, well cooked veggies, and some protein. It will get better sooner than you think. Guest guest
EFA's being off for a while will CAUSE diabeties, but I don't think it's quiet as simple as just change the diet and our kids will heal in 6 months, if that were the case we would be recovering all kids in 6 months. Guest guest
Do Not Give LDM-100 with Valtrex. At minumum leave at least a few weeks for the body to clean out. LDM-100 is a strong anti-viral (and anti-bacterial)!!! Our biggest concern has been people using it inappropriately just because you don't need a prescription. Heed the good advise below, it'll dump toxins and the liver (and other detox organs) need to be able to handle the toxic dump! Every one of us using it safely in Washington used it with doctors that understood anti-virals, detox and our kids (and ourselfs). We all went down to basic supplements (like good minerals/amino acid supplements, good fats, good probiotic/yeast protocol...many of us ended up increasing during the early stages of LDM-100, good binders/liver supports and depending on the metals levels a mild chelator...like ca-edta/detoxamine). You also want to be able to truely tell what the child is reacting to...too much stuff you can't tell what's actually causing the problem. Guest guest
Nobody said it was simple or tried to imply it on this end...I meant that focusing on diet and the other things that we have some control over makes it easier to wait out the agonizing periods while we are trying to figure out if something is working or not...and diet is a big deal...as you just reinforced. I had no idea that EFAs being off for a period could actually cause diabetes. Where did you hear that? I wonder how it is that our kids do not become diabetic as their EFAs are WAY WAY off...Di > > > > > > > > From: rhondamasengale rhondamasengale@ > > > > Subject: Should I change anti-virals? > > > > To: mb12 valtrex > > > > Date: Thursday, June 5, 2008, 5:52 PM > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > My two sons have been on 250mg 3x/day of Valtrex since > February. > > WE > > > > had an initial 60 day healing regression, but then behaviors > > > leveled > > > > off. Guest guest
Does this mean that EFA supplementation can reverse insulin resistance? If so, can you direct me to information that tells us what type of dosages and such? Guest guest
it's not that simple of just take EFA's, it about what you are lacking in and to high in, so you would have to test and see where your current levels are at, and then compensate and change to rebalence the body. Guest guest
I have no ABA program in place. I know some of how you do it, but I am VERY green. How did you use ABA to get your child to do the BED diet? I have talked with therapists around here and no one can help me (or won't). My youngest is a food striker. I can't even get juiced veggies in him right now. But he loves the coconut YCK. Can you explain a little of the procedure to get him to eat for me? Thanks! Not going on any grain right now. Will stick with meat and veggies (as much cultured as I can make!). Thanks again! Guest guest
Well, that's what I plan to do. I will do the BED diet minus the grains for now. YCK is doing the wonders. Do you think I can give them too much of the YCK? My youngest could drink it all day long. Thanks Di! Guest guest
THanks, Di. I appreciate the encouragement. I get so depressed sometimes wondering if autism will ever leave my boys. I feel it has robbed me of them. But, they are getting some better, hopefully more soon.
