Christel,

I am a Christian also, so please know that I say this with all due

respect - it is WONDERFUL that you have recovered your ds and that

you can share what God had done for your family as a testimony of

God's grace and power! You are able to give hope and guidance to

others! BUT...you are not a celebrity.

People are drawn to celebrities and they listen to them (even when

they shouldn't!) They form opinions based on what they hear in the

mainstream media and the more they hear it, the more likely they are

to start believing what they hear. Very few people do research on

their own. Parents of autistic children are living it everyday and

are more likely to listen, but we need EVERYONE to listen in order to

turn the tide. It is an odd thing how people will accept the

opinions of celebrities! What they wear, where they vacation, their

causes, etc. People are more likely to believe biomedical works if

celebrities believe it and it stays in the popular media as front

page news (just because of the celebrity link) than if 100 top

experts speak about it on the health pages of the newspaper. That's

why advertisers choose celebrities to advertise their products.

As a Christian, you are well aware of the fact that there are some

people who are not Christians who will dismiss what you have to say

just because you ARE a Christian, kwim? There are a lot of people

who won't listen to someone like you or me who MIGHT listen to !

In addition, you simply do not have the same platform as . She

has in-roads that we " non-celebrities " simply do not have. There are

other celebrities that are affected by autism, but they have not

brought awareness to the biomedical approach like has. Maybe

because they haven't tried it themselves. Maybe because they aren't

willing to be so brazen and take on the " powers-that-be " like she has.

Personally, I don't watch TV and hadn't heard of her before. I have

heard of Jim Carrey. I haven't read her book. So, while she didn't

reach ME, she will reach many others. I even had an occasion in

which I was sharing with a Christian homeschooling friend about my

ds's autism and she asked me if I had heard of 's book. That

was what she knew to offer me because that is what is in the popular

media!

Let's support her efforts. If she can survive this and even thrive

through it, others will be more willing to step into the limelight.

I am thankful that she is giving voice to biomedical intervention.

Blessings,

question again and again. " Where is the moral leadership on this

issue? " Money talks, and no doubt " leadership " in this nation is

driven by the dollar more times than not.

Thank you , for taking this on. Her celebrity status has given us

all a voice. End of story. No need to speculate. Let's use our voice

and not look back. What's done is done. Together we can help change

what may be to come. Let's continue to focus all of our energy on

healing our children.
