Guest guest
Oh, Lord! I hate prunes!! I'd try Fiber One bars first!! But if you LIKE prunes, I'd check one of the nutritional content websites like http://www.wehealnewyork.org/healthinfo/dietaryfiber/fibercontentchart.html to check how much fiber is in each. I believe it's recommended that we eat a minimum of 25 grams per day so I'd shoot for 30 or more. Depending on how much other fiber you normally eat (breakfast cereal, breads, etc.), add enough prunes to bring your fiber total up to 30 or more. According to the site I list, 3 pitted prunes is only 1.9 gms of fiber and also 122 calories so in my opinion, they're a little too calorie dense for the amount of fiber provided. I do like Fiber One bars and one bar is 9 gms of fiber & 140 calories I think. Plus they're a lot tastier than prunes And be sure to drink plenty of water also! Just my 2 cents. Or 2 grams.........................Dorothy prunes for constipation questionTo: Hepatitis_C_Central > how many do you recommend to eat daily to help relieve constipation?> >
Guest guest
The trick to having regular BM's is to eat fiber. Doesn't have to be prunes. A mostly whole food diet with smaller meat and dairy portions and larger fruit, vegetable, whole grains and nuts will keep a person regular. Also very important is drinking enough water. A person should drink 1/2 oz per pound of body weight. If you weigh 180 you should drink almost 3 quarts a day. Drinking enough water will keep the river of life in your body flowing. http://watercure2.org is a site I find helpful about the benefits of drinking water. The following foods have no fiber and should be eaten sparingly. Meat of any kind. Dairy in any form. White bread, refined flours, white rice and white sugar. Soda Pop. Eggs. Fish. Anything that is refined can have fiber missing. A truly healthy person poops with every meal, not just in the morning. You really don't want that waste hanging out in your colon all day. http://thenutmanshow.mypodcast.com there is a little podcast here about poop. Guest guest
Great! I buy the Fiber One bars at Costco or BJ’s Wholesale so I’ve always got them. Also throw a couple in my handbag for a snack in the car. They really are good and sure beat prunes!! Glad someone takes my advice J From: Hepatitis_C_Central [mailto:Hepatitis_C_Central ] On Behalf Of CrystalsAndCandles Sent: Thursday, December 27, 2007 4:08 PM To: Hepatitis_C_Central Subject: Re: prunes for constipation question Thanx sooo much for the info! Guest guest
I usually use soluble-fibre in water/liquid just before meals. It helps to retain water in the stool/s, and therefore makes elimination " go " (lol) more smoothly. IMO It also helps to fill me up, so I eat less volume of food at mealtime/s. It can also have the added benefit of helping to delay the emptying of the stomache-contents, which can help with post-meal Glucose- spikes....etc. Ask Your doctor/s and/or pharmacist/s if adding fibre is right for You, as some health-conditions may preclude the addition of fibre to ones diet. The absorption of some medications can be affected by taking them at the same time as fibre as well (and ask what type of fibre/s to use),....yet one more reason to ask Your doctor/s and/or pharmacist/s about these things. I hope that this was of some help to You. > > how many do you recommend to eat daily to help relieve constipation? >

Guest guest
Not a problem Sharon, we can all use a reminder/s from time to time. I try to keep-up on things as well as I can, and I've learned a few tips-n-tricks that help me to keep my blood-glucose (A1C) down to good levels, (My last A1c was 5.6) although I ALWAYS consult my health-team about things before I implement anything. There are SO-MANY hucksters around, especially on the internet, trying to proffer so-called " cures " for this and that....etc. Most definitely, Hepatitis and Diabetes can-be, and often are related to each other,.....among a number of other conditions. One more challenge,....I suppose. The ONE somewhat 'good-thing' about all of this, (if one can call anything about it 'good' that is) is that it has made me much more aware of how to treat my health/body better, eating properly...etc. It's been one HECK of a learning-curve all the way around, and it's a continual research kind of thing to do. Luckily, I've always been scientifically-minded and I actually greatly-enjoy learning new things, wondering about things/asking questions. etc. Don't get me wrong, it CAN-be frustrating at times as well. :-) However, it is an 'interesting' subject/s and also has a tendency to keep me more mentally-engaged than I might be otherwise. > > This is information I USED to know. lol Thanks for the reminder!! > > Sharon in NW Washington > All I have seen teaches me to trust in the Creator for all that I have not seen.
