Thanks. That makes sense. I don't think I've felt so poorly in a long time. Also, I've been sick for about 4-6 weeks...probably another symptom of low thyroid. I wish good doctors were easier to find. I have enough medicine in my cupboard to add T4 or increase my dose, but then I know the docs will just be angry and I'll jeopardize future scripts. I made an appt with another doc, but it is two weeks out...

The sleeping difficulty can be both adrenal and hypo related since both of those are inter-related - i.e., when you are undermedicated, then your adrenals are trying to compensate thus your adrenals get stressed. You may still need adrenal support when you get your thyroid stabilized, but without being on adequate thyroid, you won't be able to get your adrenals stable.

Interesting to note I have historically had low (just out of range) cholesterol. I wonder how (if at all) that affects my hormone production. No doc has ever worried about it, but it shows up consistently.

What you would need to support the adrenals varies depending upon your test results. Some docs will Rx low dose hydrocortisone whereas some will recommend DHEA, etc. Other folks just need some B vitamins - B5 (along with cholesterol) is a precursor for hormone production.

The most accurate test for adrenal function is a 24 hour saliva test where your cortisol is measured 4x/day. Many doctors have the test kits or you can order online through canary club: www.canaryclub.org and take the results to your doctor. If you've not had any of these tests before, it's best to get the adrenal and reproductive hormones tested at the same time, since they are related.
