My liver doctor asked me to try this new trial because I can not tolerate Interferon. It is a non Interferon herb based drug. It is made from 6 different herbs that the Chinese had been testing for something unrelated, Heart problems I think. They found it was helping to heal scaring of the liver. It was dropping the scores one point and sometimes two. If your liver grade was stage 2 it would drop to stage 1.The full name of the drug is Fuzheng Huayu (FZHY) but the staff call it Sundise. Sundise is the name of the company who owns the drug and it's easier to pronounce is why the use the name. The trial's are being done by Baylor College of Medicine at the Medical Center in Houston Texas.I have already been pre-approved, They are just waiting for me to decide if I want too. It is a Phase II randomized, Placebo controlled double blind multi-center study...Boy was that a mouthful.I would get a liver biopsy before and after trial, Will take 2 pills three a day and of course a lot of blood work. I would go in every 2 weeks for about 6 weeks the every month. The full duration of trial is one year and can quit anytime I want plus would get 50 bucks every time I go in. There are possible side effects like fatigue but all sound fairly harmless but you never know.I am hoping someone out there has heard of this study and can give me some info good or bad. It is really hard for me to take long drive anymore and Houston is a little over 2 hours each way. It will be hard to pull it off for a year but if it helps me or others it would be worth it. They do not claim to be a cure or a replacement for interferon "yet" but expect improvements to health and liver with few sides. For anyone interested the contact info to see if they have one in your area is:St. Luke's HospitalAdvanced Liver Therapies6620 MainSuite 1505Houston TX.77030Thanks Butch
Guest guest
Hi Butch, If you can't do interferon, then you need to do ALL you can to protect your liver. Think I sent you the info on Dr Berkson's protocol. Don't know if you have tried it. This sounds great. I spoke to a lady there, but I am TOOO old--age 18-70--and I am 76. If you need the info on Dr Berkson again, let me know. Great that you finally got some financial help !!!!! SuziQ > > Has anyone tried the Sundise (FZHY) trial. Guest guest
Guys I leave tomorrow for 2 evaluations for TP. I will be at the University of WI on Tuesday (Penny and Rick) and University of Iowa on Wed and Thursday. I am bringing my brand new Uggs.... As you all know by now I did do TX but it came back 3 months after I stopped. I did a full 48 weeks. They could not treat me again because my liver is to damaged. However with that said.......I have been stable for 16 months. My liver doctor is amazed. My viral load has stayed around 200,000. I am still on Laxalose, water pills, and 2 other drugs. I feel like a million dollars. The first year off treatment I was very depressed and put on 50lbs. I have lost 15 of it on Weight Watchers and feel the depression has lifted. My doctor still wanted me to be evaluated in the midwest as it is almost impossible to get a liver in CA. My meld score is 13. I am excited to learn what is in front of me. We know it will happen we just dont know if it will be next year or 3 years from now. He thinks I could potentially get 3 more years as he labeled me a slow responder. I do take milk thistle twice a day. Both my liver doctor and I know it helps. I dont drink or use drugs other then the ones I talked about. I dont even take tylenol. I try to keep a positive attitude. I also have turned it over to god and know he does what he can Wish me luck and I will have lots of information when I get back on the 14th. Thank god for this board. It has really helped me over the last 3 years. Guest guest
Hey SuziQ I am never going to get to do Dr. Berksons. I am living off of $674.00 month, A whole lot better than the $00.00 I made the last 3 years though. After living expences there is not much left and still have to pay 100 bucks each month for a pain doctor, I HAVE to get pain treated it's just too extreme and my East Texas Medicaid does not have a pain Doctor on my plan, Take that back, there is one but he does not like treating serious pain like mine. Sorry they wont let you do trials, My Mom is 77 yet she gets around great, I am 53 and get around like a 90 year old cripple. I don't think the trial meds are going to fix my cripple bones which is my worst issue and makes me wander if it would be worth it for me to do trial...Probably will though. Thanks a bunch for replying...Take care Butch > > Hi Butch, > > If you can't do interferon, then you need to do ALL you can to protect your liver. Think I sent you the info on Dr Berkson's protocol. Guest guest
Hi Butch You sent me shopping thru Amazon for the basic protocol for Dr Berkson. Actually, you can get his protocol for a little over $30 a month. Probably cheaper if you don't go with brands I know are good. But you may want to do the trial, get your fibrosis level down and then do Dr B's protocol to keep it down. Is it a double blind study or just a trial with all receiving the same? Where do you live in East Texas? I live in Whitney--near Waco. I grew up in East Texas (long, long ago) I do love the " piney woods " . Surely there is some one to treat you for less. What is the cause of the pain? SuziQ > > Hey SuziQ > I am never going to get to do Dr. Berksons. I am living off of $674.00 month, A whole lot better than the $00.00 I made the last 3 years though. Guest guest
Hey SuziQ Live in Onalaska about a block from Lake Livingston...Not one of the High dollar homes LOL. The trial is a double blind study and will have to wait till finished to try berkson, No over the counter stuff when on it but can keep taking prescription meds ??? May be a little more financially stable by then AKA more adjusted to poverty pay...still not complaining, much better than the zero I was living on. The pain is bones/joints and tendons, Was in serious chemical exposure 27 years ago that has been very slowly eating away bones. I also have Fibromialgia, Padgett's disease and osteoporosis. They all play hell with bones, Hands are almost useless and tendons feel like they shrink and have to stretch back out, ask anyone who has cut a tendon they can tell ya it hurts, I cut my index finger tendon years ago and for years it was like trying to stretch a ruberband made out of nerve endings, This is full body tendons. I also spent most of my life doing extreme things that kept me injured. Hit a sailboat mast while para sailing, Flipped sailboats-power boats-cars and motorcycles and fell down a few perfectly good mountains. Been airlifted out of one rain forest and carried out of another one by Pygmy Head Hunter cannibals, Did ya know they only like dark meat...Blonde headed blue eyed me was safe,Go figure. I even managed to break my little toe in 8 different places at same time. I was having so much fun in life I never notice how sick I was getting till too late. when stuff bolds up slowly for decades you kinda get used to it and you think it is normal till one day it all becomes to much. Had one hell-of-a ride though Thanks a bunch for the help and hope I answered all your questions. Take care Butch > > Hi Butch > > You sent me shopping thru Amazon for the basic protocol for Dr Berkson. Actually, you can get his protocol for a little over $30 a month.
