I watched Kathy's story and it IS the DS surgery however they don't talk

about the actual surgery much. It is more about KATHY. It is an interesting show

and her life changes are remarkable but I wish they had shared more about this

fantastic surgery!

Just my humble opinion (and I have one on most everything)

The Nashville group actually is listed on the duodenal switch website as

people who perform the DS. I looked into having my surgery with them because

my in-laws live in Nashville. They don't take my insurance (and with all the

problems I'm having with just trying to get Dr. K, who is on my insurance,

to be covered. . . Well.

They were leaning more to the " don't get it done " side. Distressing

to hear in the news, since this is such a better option for those who

are morbidly obese with little hope otherwise.

Ellen,

So many people are having complications from the RNY and it's " the

surgery " to have right now so that it's just given that WLS might as well have

" RNY "

said rather than WLS.

The lady across the steet from me told me once she wasn't worried about

her daughter's weight, that if she got fat enough, she'd take her and have that

" stomach " surgery....Ugh!! Sometimes you just want to say.... " hello " do you

not realize this can be dangerous? " The kids is only 13....Imagine the bone and

metabolic issues of a RNY at the earlier age!!! Can you imagine trying to

choke a protein shake down a 13 yo's throat? I know my 13 yo son wouldn't drink

one if it came with a guarantee and cash....LOL. At leat a dser can eat their

food.

Good though that they are telling people that there are complications,

although I suspect from the post they went too far in that direction? Some just

show before pics of a very large person then usually show a person(Usually at

a GYM) exercising in skimpy work out clothes....No shar pei skin, no hernias,

no mention or brief mention of possible problems. AND no mention of insurance

battles and the like. No mention of puking, protein shakes, dilations of the

stoma, or failure. No mention of Weight regain also. They usually make the RNY

seem perfect, and people think " well, I trust the doc not to kill me " Or " it

will happen to someone else " .....

Tonnie, Was it you who told me that when Dr. K was talking about

complications, you were thinking " yeah, Yeah, it won't happen to me ...let's

skip all

this... "

OK,

this is the one I saw a few weeks(Month's?) Back....Is she the one who had

the belly button class and was a buyer for a clothing store or something like

that?

If it's the same as I saw, it does say it's the Ds. It was Dr. husted in

Nashville, because he is only a bout 3 hrs from here. Another lady told me

they were currently following another pt of theirs so look for more to come

soon.....

I still say we need a big celebrity to have a DS....You know

Studdard or somebody. Speaking of him, have you seen the new video for him? He's

singing about this girl and is asking " what if " among the " what if's " was what

if I was broke, had no house, lived with momma, there is a " what if I was

Slim? " Kind of just snuck in there....The first time I heard it, I was

surprised,

but it is a good song.
