My guess is that the HCV needed to be

treated first.  Long story, but my husband has HCV and also needs a kidney

transplant.

My understanding is that if he’s

going to treat the HCV, it needs to be done first since the interferon will

cause a rejection of the new organ if they attempt to treat after.  I would

guess it’s similar regardless of the organ.

I think they do try to get you to treat before tranplant but I've known a few who have had to treat after transplant because the virus attacked the new liver with a vengence and it was to full cirrhosis within one year ,, after tx,, Dorothy wrote: My guess is that the HCV needed to be treated first. I wonder if that would apply to a kidney as well or any "foreign" organ introduced into the body? I dont know, but with hep, they usually try to treat before tx if they can, but if not, then they have to treat after tx because the virus will invade it quickly,, dorv@... wrote: I wonder if that would apply to a kidney as well or any "foreign" organ introduced into the body?
