Guest guest
Trying to help a patient who lives in New Hampshire figure how (if) he can afford post-transplant meds. He has been denied “extra help” through Social Security/Medicare – gross income for him and his wife is $23,400 per year. He has Medicare A & B and a Medicare supplemental plan. He has indicated that if he has a transplant he cannot afford to pay the almost $5000 per year for his post-tx meds along with his other meds (e.g. Valcyte, Bactrim, Protonix, etc), especially during the donut hole which he would hit within a couple of months. Right now AKF If received a transplant I would help him apply for assistance from the pharmaceutical companies but wondering if there is a way to check that ahead of time so patient does not end up with significant post-transplant meds problems? To date my experience with initial phone calls to the pharmaceutical companies have been non-committal responses until they review the application. What have been people’s experiences been in such cases to help their patients plan ahead? Thanks much!
