NO! I was blissfully unaware of what you lot go through. I knew you had to pay for medical care or go with out. another thing we don't have to worry about. Dr's treat everyone pretty good. We don't have all this signing and DEA business. We don't have a DEA! For eg. i hurt myself, lost my career. At no time have I paid one cent for any medication, physio, hospital stays. etc... or gone without a income. That's just the way it is here. :-) Money or no money everyone gets into hospital and treated well. It's going down hill a bit lately, we had a marvellous health care system, but government just love to fix what's not broken. anyway, i hope we don't continue to slid down until we get to what you're going through. that would be awful. Just as a side issue, we are in the black financially. You owe trillions $! I think americans really get a rotten deal with their way of government. We have as you know a parliament, but I don't want to get involved in all that political talk so i'll shut up now. <g> Sharon.

When I read about all the things our American friends have to go through, I shudder. Our health care system is under-funded, old, and ridiculously slow - but at least it's free and accessible for all. And there isn't all this nonsense about doctors prescribing narcotics getting in trouble with the government. And there's no drug testing by employers! - when I first heard about that, I was shocked. What business is it of your boss what you do in your spare time?! Being a Canadian and hearing about the U.S. all the time I thought I knew how things worked down there...but being a member of this site has been a real eye-opener. I have to agree with Sharon when she says it sounds like the American government doesn't treat it's citizens very well sometimes. Hope I haven't offended anyone - Di in Vancouver, B.C. It was working very well, then the politicians etc. got to tinkering with it. If they do much more tinkering it will be ruined. That'd be a shame. " If it ain't broke - don't fix it. Siel (in Great Britain) adds I was stunned when I joined the group to find out that things are the way they are Stateside. I thought that I knew a fair bit about your health and welfare systems, as our government of which ever persuasion gets ideas from yours. Here people do have a safety net, although it's not very easy to live on. We don't have to pay for healthcare, although it may take a while no one fails to see a consultant. We do get rather fixated on operation waiting times to the detriment of other treatment modalities. For example, I'm seen in a multidisciplinary pain management unit and although I might not get all of my treatment there (my gp " fills " ALL of my repeat prescriptions, which are dispensed at any pharmacy I choose) I'm able to access PMU services as and when. I'm able to see a specialist nurse/acupuncturist every 6 months for up to 3 sessions. All of this is free at the point of delivery although we do pay a lot for it through the pay packet. Right, time to get off the soap box. :¬))) Siel
