Guest guest
Hi Penny,I've never heard of that term except to designate a CT scan, how was it worded again? She has Genotype 1a, which is the same as me and many others, but they said she is also a CT. Does anyone know what that means? She is going to start a trial in May with a 4 drug treatment, which includes interferon. She didn't say what the name of it was. Do any of you know about that? She wanted to do a treatment that didn't have interferon in it because she did treatment two times with interferon and was a non responder both times. She doesn't think that any treatment with interferon is going to help her. Thanks for any information you might have about this. Guest guest
She just said she found out she is a genotype 1a and also a CT. She later told me that was breaking the genotype down even further. Guest guest
If it doesn't have interferon in it, it will not work. Interferon is produced naturally in our bodies. It is what helps us fight virus. When you take interferon injectables with treatment, it boost the immune system to help us fight the Hep C virus. I hope this helps. Guest guest
CT is a genetic variation - measured by the IL28B test - the desired result is CC, rather than CT. Here is some info: http://www.hcvadvocate.org/hepatitis/easyfacts/IL28B.pdf http://www.medscape.com/viewarticle/717606_2 Lucinda > > I have a friend who also has Hepatitis C and she started going to a new doctor recently. Guest guest
They are doing trials on a treatment that doesn't have Interferon in it. I see later in the messages, SuziQ posted about it. It is called PSI-7977 and they've been having good luck with it. That is the treatment my friend wanted to try. Guest guest
Actually several companies are in phase 11 and 111 trials with drugs that do no use interferon because it is so hard on people. They are trying to make it easier on us in forms of length of treatment (3 months) and relieve some of the worst side effects from the pegalated interferon, but they won't be out till 2014. But studies are under way as I was asked to go into one of them. Some of the names are PSI 7977 and TCM 435 and another one. Guest guest
I answered this rather quickly and did not explain that the genetic variation is in the host gene (us) rather than in HCV. This may explain why some people clear HCV and some don't. African Americans are less likely to have the genetic variation that helps us clear HCV, which explains why AA's have lower response rates. It is all really interesting and if you have never been treated and you have geno 1, an IL28 test might be useful info...
