Guest guest
Rick you have to have 10 full quarters of work within the last 10 years to be eligible,, but that doesnt mean that any work done while incarcirated isnt counted, I think it might be,, but if he did not work while in prison, then he might not qualify.. and NO,, just because one is on SSDI you do NOT ALWAYS qualify for medicaid,, please make sure of what you are saying before you say it because I think you may be passing on some mis-information.. SSDI is not the same thing as SSI,, ssdi is soc sec disability insurance, ssi is welfare,, if you get above a certain amount of ssdi which is somewhere around 700,per month, then you wont qualify for ssi which is welfare.. Medicaid is the welfare part as well,, When someone goes on SSDI, they have to remain unemployed for one year before they become eligible for Medicare which is the health care provided for those on SSDI.. There is a lot of confusion in your post and its quite possible that I am not understanding your post myself and if that is the case, please accept my appology but I think you are confusing the ssi and ssdi issues, the medicare and medicaid issues and some even qualify for Medi-Cal, depending on the state they live in and the income.. MY husband gets SSDI AND VA medical ,, one does NOT affect the other income wise,, Im not sure what you are saying that you make too much to get VA ??? Are you a qualifying Vet? IF you make above a certain level of income, you just have a copay for meds and docs visits, if not, you get it for free as long as you qualify for VA benefits... my husband happens to be 100% disabled from a service connected issue so we have no copays.. IF he resides in Wash, he can contact DAV or the Disabled Veterans Office in Vancouver and they can help him get his Veterans benefits. They helped us when we lived in Portland and had to go to the VA office in Vancouver Wash. Since he was incarcerated, his situation could very possibly be very different than any of ours so your advice to see an attorney who specializes in SSDI is the best advice given to him or to call the SS office where he lives.. once again, if I've misread your post, Im sorry but it sounds totally against everything we've experienced. jax Rick Kipp wrote: Hey, Bill. Yes I do think you're eligible for ssdi, with all the problems you mentioned as well as the hcv. And I would apply ASAP. I don't know what income they'll look at, but what the hay, something's better than nothing! Also, when you do get approved by ss, you get a check for your back pay, going back 1.5 or 2 years from your date of eligibility. Also, once on ssdi, you will be able to get on Medicaid after a short delay. Then you can buy supplemental insurance to cover the last 20%. It's really worthwhile to apply. When I first was applying, I applied online, but then realized that may have been a mistake. Too remote for feelings. So my wife and I both talked to this great woman at our local SS Office, and she was very encouraging, as well as wrote it all down and edited it so that I had a better chance. So, you may want to call you local office and even go talk to someone one on one. Just be honest with her, because you have a long list of injuries and hcv. Do you remember any of the Doc's names? If so, write them down. Can be helpful for ssdi application. She'll know your available programs immediately and the rate, which usually increases yearly by 3%. Also, you can go online (google ssdi) and there's a like there somewhere where you can find your ss benefits. I also tried to get a VA Pension, but I made too much money on SSDI! There all idiots to some degree, so take it slow and don't show your frustations. You can also write your representatives in Washington. Sometimes, they'll really dig into it and protect your rights. Good luck, man, and please let all of us know how it's going.> Hello guys, long time no post. Guest guest
Hi Rick Im sorry you felt insulted that was not my intention,, not at all,, just trying to clarify some confusion.. Hope you are having a wonderful christmas! Rick Kipp wrote: Hi Jackie. I understand your message, and point taken. I was speaking from my own experience, which is quite different that your post. Also, we don't know if the poster worked at a decent job the prior 5 years to incarceration. I'm assuming he worked enough to qualify, no matter what SSDI will pay. I am not service disabled (unless I could prove my very early sterility (none in family), or my HCV ('Nam vets highly more likely to get hcv than other groups). So I applied for a VA Pension, as I explained, and they simply said that my $1083.00 per month SSDI was too high for me to qualify for the VA Pension. They well knew my income was solely from SSDI and flat out rejected me. And I still don't know why the SSDI folks who approved me at 100% would also send me the literature about Medicare. I've talked to them and to independent agencies for a supplemental plan, and no one has expressed surprise at my Medicaid eligibility at age 61. No one has ever balked at my eligiblity for Medicare and SSDI. I was entirely wrong in my original reply when I wrote Medicaid instead of Medicare. Don't think that's worth shooting me for! I'm well aware of the difference between SSDI and SSI, btw, And, your insults are not justified and are out of your character. Question my posts, yes, thank you! But please try to respond a bit more adultly, as then more folks will listen. At any rate, that is my personal experience only and I have done much research on the subjects discussed here. Thanks for letting me vent and try to amend my first reply. Guest guest
hey Rick WE ALL have days like that,, and we all have brain fA*ts.. so never mind honey,, its all ok Im glad you are enjoying your holiday, so are we,, Arent you worried about having that many exrays in one month????? well I hope your pneumonia goes away,, its horrible to feel like that,, I've had pneumonia twice in my life and that was two times too many! felt like doo doo! Im sure that your wife DOES appreciate when you feel good and say that you are glad to be alive,, those around us look for every positive day we can find because we have so many that are not... Well, we're in Ventura and all are getting ready to go shopping,, oh gee,, more shopping, but I gotta go,, take care! jax Rick Kipp wrote: Thanks, Jackie! I really think I wrote that too late at night, and my mind was in complete hepper mind f*rt mode. Never do that again, lol. And, yes, my wife and I are having a truly relaxing, quiet holiday season. Just had my 3rd chest Xray of the month to determine if I still have pneumonia (I'm sure I still have it, from my continuous coughing). After 2 different rounds of antibiotics, I think the Doc's choice is narrowed down to some hospital time and IV antibiotics. At least I have my G.I. Doc and Primary Care Doc (pulminary specialist) both working on this. Instant 2nd opinion! And I hope everyone here is having a positive holidy, despite the medical difficulties we all suffer. We always have to look forwards to better days, as they are waiting, if you welcome them. A few weeks ago my wife drove me to some Doc's appointment. After I managed to get out of the car, I just looked around. It was one of those really beautiful Florida winter days with no humidity and cooler air, almost New England like. I said to my wife, "Boy, this is a great day to be alive". She loved that I felt that way and encourages me to find and welcome other days like that in the future. It was a great feeling.Hepatitis_C_Central , Jackie on wrote: Hi RickIm sorry you felt insulted that was not my intention,, not at all,, just trying to clarify some confusion..Hope you are having a wonderful christmas!Jackie
