,

I can relate completely to how your feeling. I know personally, I

started this adventure to just plain get healthy and the DS worked!

I feel great! I can move and do it rapidly! This surgery is a

miracle. I only lost weight for the first four months after

surgery. I had a plateau for two months and then lost 20 pounds with

a hernia repair and TT at my six month mark. Since the TT, I have

lost nothing, in fact I have gained and lost 8-10 pounds over and

over again. I did see Dr. K very recently and he was happy with the

results I have achieved and I feel horrible wanting more because I

have accomplished my goal of becoming healthy. Now, my goal is to

become fit and trim and no matter what I do I can not get anywhere.

I too do not post, but read mostly. I get inspiration from those

that are succeeding and hope from those that have struggled and win

once in a while. I have lost 81 pounds (289-208)and will be at 2

years in June, with no loss in 16 months. I feel like I am the " one "

that failed if I look at the numbers, but at the same time feel so

grateful for losing what I could not do without DS. Right now, I am

frustrated (not depressed or angry) that I feel so wonderful and want

to look the way I feel, but get nowhere and I think I am trying even

harder than before surgery. I eat so much healthier and exercise is

very much a part of my family life. Good things have happened and I

feel like a real a* & for wanting more.

I promise to post more, if you do! I told Dr. K that I just am not

the perfect dieter because I just can not cut out every carb and

everything sugar, but I have eliminated a lot! You know what he

said? Why should I HAVE to be perfect and why would I be trying

to " diet " ? I know in my heart that he is right. But when my brain

sees that extra 60-70 pounds hanging on it's wondering when the heck

it's gonna let go! You hang in there with me, we will make it one

way or another!

, you are NOT a sad example for us. You are SO normal!!

I completely relate to your post. I'm 15 months out and I'm only down 100

pounds. I loose 5 and gain 25 in two days and it takes WEEKS to drop that

25, only to have it reappear. I bet since my DS I've lost 250 pounds it's

just that it didn't all come off in a straight line, and it is a lost and

regained total.

Do not despair because you are just like the majority of us.

THANK YOU for posting, my sister.

Jim

Struggling

Hi - thanks to those that have written about struggles. I have been feeling

sad and not sure how to get myself out of my feelings of failure.

I KNOW that I have lost a whole bunch of weight and I DO feel much better

health wise BUT, my weight loss pretty much stopped at about 9mos out. I have

only lost 11lbs since mid December. I am down a total of 107lbs. (Started at

320 - currently 213 - since January). Dr. K said he thinks I can lose another

30lbs without surgery - if I cut out sugar and watch carbs a little. I would

like to get rid of another 30-40lbs. I feel like my remaining window of

weight loss time is already VERY small and not feeling very hopeful right now.

I keep working on eliminating the chocolate - my toughest problem food by far

- but not as successful as I would like.

I find myself not wanting to post - maybe cuz you'll all discover I'm a sad

example of DS success. I guess I feel like a loser - not the good kind.

Hope everyone is doing well. Thanks for listening.

, if it helps you or anyone else, remember when I was in the

flophouse? I was about nine months out and stuck at that weight, I

couldn't lose while in the flophouse and I was eating and eating. I

came down only about fifteen pounds in the next ten months. Then I

had my TT and dropped twenty pounds, only 4.5 was skin. Of course,

I did quit soda and definitely controlled my carbs better after the

TT, but maybe because the motivation was finally there with the flat

belly? Anyway, here I am now, feeling fine, looking fine. Not

exercising, lol. I need to start...

Oh , your post touched my heart and a strong sympathetic cord,

especially in the light of some recent posts. I am sorry you feel your window

is

closed, but I think Dr. K is probably right and it isn't. Weight will continue

to

come off, and, if it doesn't, you have helped your health immensely. I know

the drive to want to get to a lower weight, while not knowing it can be done.

My thoughts and prayers are with you. NEVER, NEVER, NEVER feel like a failure

and NEVER, NEVER, NEVER be afraid to post. Our strength is in our combined

experiences and you HAVE BEEN ENORMOUSLY SUCCESSFUL, no matter what happens in

the next 15 months. You are a loser -- the best kind of loser to be! You are

part of our group, and we support you, care for you and want the best for

you. I hope to see you posting more often, because, after all, we are your

support group!

Hugs and blessings,

Ann

Hi Marta,

Thanks - I keep trying to work on what I am eating - I don't do soda. But, I

just have to look at my carbs (sugar) cuz I know that my meals are pretty

good, its the snacks inbetween that are the problem - and are probably the main

culprit of my lack of weight loss. YEAH, exercise - I have been walking about

5 days a week - but am only able to go about a mile cuz of my very bad knee -

it's hurting like heck by time I'm done.

Jan,

Thanks for the encouraging words - it helps. I have been surprised how many

others have responded that they have gone thru or are going thru these same

feelings. I guess I have spent so much of my life feeling pretty much alone in

my weight stuggle that I forget that we have all been down the failure road

many times before, so everyone knows what I am talking about. It is helpful to

hear from everyone too.

And, I agree we are all great successes - healthier, alive and able to do

soooo much more. Now, if I can get off that last 30-40lbs. .....

- If you have trouble walking any distance, please consider riding

a stationary bicycle - you'll be putting very little pressure on your

knees. It worked for me!

Also, your window is not closing. You have 18-24 months of

malabsorption.

Looking forward to seeing you sometime in the near future.

Hi !

I have given up trying to avoid my sugar addiction. But, I've

turned to low-carb sweets instead. There is SO much out there! I

just bought a low-carb donut mix from Atkins online. I've found

some very yummy low-carb cookies and there are plenty of tasty sugar

free candies out there. I don't have an answer as to why you're

craving it so much because I've never figured it out for myself, but

there are definitely alternatives. I hope you find an answer to

help you.
