A patient of Dr Marchesini (Sherri) has been diagnosed. WOndered if there was a DS link or just a coincidence. I am not the best a deciphering internet info but there seems to be links to PTH, serum calcium and osteoporosis. Lets all take our calcium and pray for Dee. hugs, cindy lee ___________________________________________________ lee, If you want look back at my pre op time, I was hyper parathyroid due to poor calcium intake pre op My DS. They made me do the Parathyroid scan and all just to find mothing wrong...Then a few weeks of research later, I find that the parathyroid hormone send signals to leech calcium from bones and all available sources when the blood levels are low. As I had never been told to supplement, and noone had ever checked before, Ther was no telling if this was from the RNY or before when I had the vbg. So basically an elevated PTH level is a distress call froom the body saying get more calcium and I don't care where you get it.....LOL. in Bama VBG 1982 (lost from 433lbs to 270's) VBG -RNY1996 revision(Lost from 343 to 299) RNY-DS revision Dec 2002 -down 135 lbs (377.7 to 242.2 and still going) Homepage address- http://hometown.aol.com/mdl1031/myhomepage/profile.html Many thanks to Dr. K willing to take on a 3rd timer....LOL

Hi Lee! I had this problem (but it went away with no treatment) years before the GR-DS. Now it appears to be back. I have my next labs to do (tomorrow), then Dr. K will tell me what to do. My PCP has recommended I see an endocrinologist. Hugs and blessings, Ann
Guest guest
I wanted to post on here (even though I replied to you privately) that I have now have a hyperparathyroid problem since my DS. Dr. K upped my dosage of calcium and made sure I was continuing taking my ADEK, and is monitoring it. This was new to me at one year out, no problems on the previous labs. I did have a Dexascan right after my DS so that we could watch that over the years to make sure I didn't run into any problems.
