Guest guest
Hi Marilyn, I haven't actually done this but if we were moving I think I'd get Kel in on the actual move as much as possible, especially arranging the new bedroom as a priority. If your child will be at school tomorrow during most of the move, maybe you two can make plans to arrange her things in her new bedroom once she gets home from school. She is lucky, as moves go this one should be as easier since her school, friends and so on will remain the same. Everyone will be tired by this time tomorrow night, but you might tuck away a little extra energy toward the possibility that your child may have a little or a lot of trouble going to sleep in the new surroundings. I always handle things better when I've thought ahead rather than get caught by surprise when tired and worn out. Most children are a little thrown by a move and I think an OCD child may have more problems due to lack of flexibility. If your child has a lot of " just right, just so " compulsions she may really have a struggle to feel settled in to the new house. Good luck! We are moving on Monday (same school and just a few miles away) any advice on how to handle an OCD child with a move? Thanks. Guest guest
Hi Marilyn: Good luck with your move. Any change can be hard on someone with OCD. If you recognize that ahead of time, you will be less surprised if you encounter any problems. Sometimes moving to a different location allows our beloved OCDers to temporarily escape from all the OCD rules that existed in their last location, that is until OCD sets its rules in the new location. If you talk about the move in a positive way and emphasize the fun it might help your child to adjust. Good luck, please keep us posted about how the move went. Take care, aloha, Kathy (h) kathy.hi@... Happy Sunday! Hello, Hope everyone is having a good weekend. I have a question.
