High blood pressure issues

Like many of you with a hypo condition, I went through years of weight gain and

stress on my system before a proper diagnosis. Early on, I was handed

anti-depressants and anti-anxiety meds and gained even more weight. I weighed

180-185 for 12 years, but have climbed to 215 over the past 5. I'm just 5'4 " . My

blood pressure, after being low, like 95-110s over 60s, has climbed over the 15

years that I grew more ill. I'm seeing 140s or 150s/80s now instead of 130s or

140s/70s two years ago. I spike even higher in the doctor's office.

I've been feeling a lot better the last two months, and have finally been able

to do a little walking daily. I'm finally " together " enough, and have the energy

again to work on watching my diet and calories and some pounds are coming off.

In the mean time, my blood pressure is not good. It's been coming down a bit

since I started watching my calories and have also had more decent sleep. I know

it goes up and down with stress and sleep issues. And the a-d and a-a meds don't

help. I'm sure I have some edema from the a-d.

What I'd like to know is how many of you developed high blood pressure along

with your disease process, and if so, did your doctor insist you go on blood

pressure meds, or did you see it resolve with feeling better and losing weight,

and/or exercising more and getting better sleep?

I really don't want to mess with how good I feel right now, and am concerned

that the side effects of bp meds will drag me down again. My pcp in Dallas is

talking about me getting on a bp med, and I want to lobby for continuing with my

exercise and diet efforts to see if my bp continues to improve. I will try to

get this doc to speak with my thyroid doc before I do anything.

Any thoughts or experiences would be appreciated.

Sara
