I have been taking Armour for 6 years with basically no problems. When I got my

last prescription 3 weeks ago, the pills would not dissolve under the tongue and

tasted chalky so I knew something had changed.

In addition, since the first night of taking it, I have had vivid dreams and

slept poorly. Over the past two weeks I have developed daily headaches and also

fatigue plus I have gained a few pounds although I exercise intensely, watch

what I eat and have not gained weight in a year.

I went to Dr. in Lubbock last Monday who said that some of his

patients are complaining that their symptoms have returned since going on the

new Armour. He suggested I might switch to compounded pig thyroid from the

Women's International Pharmacy so I did. It has not arrived yet but it will be

interesting to see what happens when I begin taking it.

I do not understand why the company had to change Armour. Does anyone know?

This is very discouraging.

Nannette-

The change was that they substituted more microcrystalline cellulose for some of the dextrose, supposedly with the intention of making the thyroid hormone more bio-available.

There have evidently been some bad batches of the lower doses. The last time I checked their hotline, all doses below 120 mg were unavailable, but expected to be released some time in July. I have also heard some good reports with the new Armour.

Do write to Forest and describe your experience, including dates and lot numbers if you have them. You might be able to get them to send you a refund. They will probably ask for copies of receipts and some of the bad pills.

All of the thyroid powder comes from the same source in the USA.

There have been rumors of the thyroid powder being of "bad assay" along with speculation that the piggies were fed soy, fluoride, and/or GMO grains. . . . .

I have heard that Western Research Labs has been developing their own sources for thyroid powder, i.e., their own piggy farms. This is also a rumor with no documentation at this time. I will check on this. WRL makes Nature-Throid and West-Throid.

If the compounded thyroid gets too expensive, you might consider asking the doc to write for Nature-Throid. It is cheap. You might need a slightly larger dose of NT. It is said to be consistent, but of lesser potency than the Armour we are used to.

Oink well and prosper.. . . .
