I'd rather have had an emotive robotic 'nanny' than a Nada; could these be

marketed to Nadas who don't want to be bothered with children anyway...

Question: can they be programed as surrogate children to Nadas? Nada could

finally have the artificial, perfect child desired...maybe then nada will leave

us alone. A 'mean' use of technology, I admit. Carol

Machine rage is dead ... long live emotional computing

The Observer, April 11, 2004

The days of the unfeeling, infuriating machine will soon be over. Scientists

are now creating computers and robots that can detect and respond to users'

feelings.

The discoveries are being channelled by Humaine, a £6 million program just

launched by the EU to give Europe a lead in emotional computing.

The systems depend on scientists' new-found ability to recognize the

physiological expressions of emotions -- changes in stature, heart beat, muscle

tension, head movement, rate and intensity of computer key strokes, blood

pressure

and other variables --and create software that allows computers to recognize

and respond to these variables.

Carol, if you haven't seen Spielberg's film " A.I. " go out and

rent it right now.

Haven't seen A. I. yet. Love science fiction, will rent it. Thanks, Carol
