Chris:

Is that a district rule that they can't have extra time on the end of the year

course tests? Do they allow other accommodations?

I love your notations about some of the teachers not " getting it " . I think I

lose a lot of people when I'm speaking in those terms too. I have a new next

door neighbor and I friend who stayed over while traveling to MN, ask me if

will outgrow his OCD!!! That one always just gets to me, especially after

explaining it as a neurobiological illness. Would they ask that of someone who

told them their child had Cerebral Palsy, asthma, or diabetes? It makes me want

to stop and give them a quick mini-seminar!! :-)

I hope has a successful year. is going into Middle School and his

anxiety is going through the roof. But other parents say that their child is

also feeling anxious -- if they only knew! He starts a week from tomorrow. At

orientation he was doing o.k. until we got almost all of the way through the

line to where they hand out the schedules -- well, they didn't have one for him.

He is in the self-contained special ed class and is mainstreamed in art, pe,

home ec (or whatever they call it these days), computer and music. Boy, did

that burn my behind! They directed us to the office. Well, let's just make

them feel even more different and insignificant than they already do. To say

the least that heightened the anxiety a tad more. I've met his SPED teacher and

had visited the room at the end of last year and was very impressed. The school

counselor assigned to the SPED kids was there and she helped calm the waters for

. I guess I'm through venting now.

Just wanted to add, that I enjoyed meeting new people at the conference and, as

always, learned some new things and enjoyed seeing my friends.

I'm already looking forward to next year in Chicago -- my calendar is already

marked, July 25 - 27.

Tamra, that's awful to have those schedules apparently separated

out! Glad the teacher & all seemed to be good. Middle school itself

was fine, I bet he'll like it! It was just some of the teachers

during the 3 yrs there ( & the school psych) that I found hard to deal

with. Some were just great about everything (tho blind to OCD) and

the accommodations needed. 'course we usually just vent when things

aren't so good, not when things are going good.
