Guest guest
Dear Group, So often members are put on steriods, usually prednisone as soon as they are diagnosed with EN. Here is a case study of a A 22-year-old lady presented at the Worthing Hospital (England) with a 3 weeks complaint of infection of her legs and was found to have polyarthralgia, erythema nodosum and bilateral hilar lymphadenopathy. She was diagnosed to have acute sarcoidosis and improved with high dose Non Steroidal Anti-Inflammatory Drugs NSAIDs. What stuck me as very interesting is that she was NOT put on steroids: <<steroids are considered the second line of treatment, even in sarcoidosis.>> Also: <<Luckily, this patient's symptoms improved with bed rest and NSAIDs.>> http://www.ispub.com/ostia/index.php?xmlFilePath=journals/ijrh/vol1n2/erythema.x\ ml So I must question the use of steriods for EN, especially as a first treatment. I hope if you are newly diagnosed, that you will first try the other treatments including bedrest and SSKI (potassium iodide). Wishing Everyone an Extra Long Weekend as we enjoy Daylight Savings Time. Love,
