Guest guest
I wanted to respond to weighty issues - i love it that everyone is concerned with each other and so helpful-- has mentioned her weight and I wanted to know that as well, but it is such a personal question--Since EN is inflammation of the fat tissue--My husband wondered if I shouldn't try to loose 20 pounds... I am considered normal weight (I'm 5 " 6 " a & 140 lb) but I certainly weigh more now at 50 than I did when I was younger... Any thoughts on this - seems to be very slender and she doesn't have frequent outbreaks---I actually don't know if anyone in the group could convince me to loose weight--I'm like everyone else--I get depressed with each outbreak and console myself with chocolate on an almost daily basis... Oh well Im asking it anyway....Vicki Lee
Guest guest
Dear Vicki, I'm pretty convinced that weight doesn't have much to do with EN. I don't really have less frequent outbreaks, but I have much milder bouts than others. However that is probably the variety of EN I have which as far as I can tell is " EN Migrans " ....one leg, few lumps, idiopathic. Several of our members are quite slim, including who is a fashion model. If you want to lose weight, do it for your health, but don't expect to cure EN by it. Being slim might help with depression. It will make you know you can control some things at least. :-) I get discouraged when I have a flare up, but I don't get depressed about it. I've had it 37 years, and so far I have always been able to go into remission, so I get my rest and think " this to shall pass " . Guest guest
Hi All. My weight has increased over the 2 years since I was diagnosed with EN and Sarc. I did manage to lose about 30lbs last year but having a break from all my good habits last Christmas it all went back on plus some more too! In this time I have only had one (fairly minor) flare up, so I don't think that the weight side is a big factor in this. I have joined my local Slimming World group and having been fairly horrified at my heavy weight of 276lbs - 10stone 10lbs, (I'm just over 6' tall) I am aiming to get down to 182lbs (13stone). In my first 2 weeks I have lost 1/2 stone (7lbs) so it's going the right way and I hope that by next Christmas I should reach my target. Whether it will have any bearing on the EN remains to be seen but it should help with the back pain that I've been having. My lowest 3 vertebrae are all badly worn out (I'm only 35 so I need to look after the ones that are left!!) and although the Chiropractor has said that my weight did not cause the problem, it will not be helping it now that I have it. Hope you all have a good weekend, must go now, have to carry on organising my daughters 3rd birthday party for Tuesday:-)))
