I know that is true of course for solid organ, but not BMT. At least not

to my knowledge? IF that is true for BMT, is it specifically stated

anywhere? That's worrisome - we have never done that for BMT donors.

Donor typing should be charged to your Organ Acquisition Cost Center.

You do not bill Medicare directly for those.

Subject: BMT DONOR BILLING

This seems to be the most confusing issue we deal with on a day to day

basis. Could someone who is involved with this issue contact me?

We have a specific issue right now that we are trying to work through

for a Medicare covered patient. The recipient expired and Medicare is

denying the submitted donor typing charges as submitted under the

donor's name. There has been discussion that the charges should be

submitted under the recipient's name rather than the donor's

name/recipient ID/organ donor relationship scenario.

Any advice or discussion would be appreciated! THanks!
