Guest guest
Penny - thanks for sharing this info. I do agree that some docs may work for some folks and not for others. I did want to clarify one point and that is that Micheal Sullivan is a PA and not an MD (not that it matters that much as I've seen PAs that are better than MDs, but it may be a concern for some folks). I do think the caveat that not every doctor will work for everyone is extremely important. Dr Horsley has worked great for me, but lots of others not so good (including my children). I did make sure the writeup I did indicates that she will only work for those that are strong advocates. So, those of us that know we need very aggressive treatment have much more difficulty in finding a good match and definitely folks should hang in there with the doctors that work well for them. My rule of thumb has been that if I didn't see an improvement in 6 months with a doctor, it was time to move on. And on that last point, it is really, really important that folks not be afraid to leave a doctor that they might personally think is great if they have not improved. I do have one friend that has been with Sullivan for almost 2 years - she's had some improvement, but the majority of her symptoms remain and her adrenals have never been tested, but she'll tell you how much she likes the guy. I will acknowledge that it may be easier for to make that judgement as healthwise I was far worse than her 2+ years ago and now I am significantly better. And, while I really like Dr. Horsley, if she won't Rx the Armour that my boys need, I will find another doctor that will. Guest guest
I have been fighting a cold and have not gotten to the computer to respond to the concerns about the doctors in this area (specifically Dr. Sullivan). I just feel I need to share my experience one more time. A month or two ago I posted about Dr. Sullivan and his unconventional approach to Adrenals. You can do a search to find my prior post. I don’t want to address that again because I feel I need to stay on topic. I went to Dr. Sullivan a year ago after reading posts that spoke favorably about him. I have had successes after a year with him. He treats my female hormones too, not just my thyroid. He believes in testing the Frees, Reverse T3, listening and doing something about symptoms. He believes that ThyCa & Hashimotos patients should have a suppressed TSH. He did state to me that he does watch the numbers in regards to Osteoporosis, so no he won’t treat “undetectable” (mine was .03 and he was fine with it). He does prescribe Armour. He does believe that patients may need a different combination of T4 & T3 meds to get them where they need to be. He does order the Diagnostic Tech Saliva test to check Adrenals. Lab results are available online and you can email him questions. He does personally respond and though his emails may be short and too the point, I know that if I don’t feel satisfied with the way I feel or how he is treating my case, I can request an appointment and he will listen to what I have to say and make some concessions. Approximately six months ago I learned that 4 other women in my neighborhood also see Dr. S and love him. None of them see him for Adrenals but feel grateful for his treatment of their Thyroid and female hormones. I was emailed privately in regards to Dr. S when a negative post was given about him (as should have been posted because that was feedback asked for). I am sorry to have not responded to those of you who contacted me, but I feel it is best to respond to all. With that said, the list of doctors that treat every patient perfect for every hormone ailment is very small and one has a list of over 60 on his waiting lists, another just stopped practicing due to mold issues, another is not getting to treat as he should and a few others get both good and bad reviews. With so few doctors and so many of us suffering, please keep in mind that no one doctor may fit every shoe/patient (and vise versa) and not all doctors treat every ailment. I believe that Dr. Sullivan may be a huge help to someone with Thyroid and female hormone issues. Please let me know if you have any other questions. Guest guest
Thanks for this email Penny! I do agree that not every doctor is going to work for everyone the same. I'm so glad he's worked for you so well. It's so hard to find doctors who will listen and respond and it sounds like you've found one with him as have others. He did at least get me started on the right path so I definitely don't have any bad feelings towards him - he just wasn't the right one for me with my own thyroid problems. Jul I have been fighting a cold and have not gotten to the computer to respond to the concerns about the doctors in this area (specifically Dr. Sullivan). I just feel I need to share my experience one more time. A month or two ago I posted about Dr. Sullivan and his unconventional approach to Adrenals. You can do a search to find my prior post.
