One day you finally knew what you had to do, and began, though the voices around you kept shouting their bad advice— though the whole house began to tremble and you felt the old tug at your ankles. " Mend my life! " each voice cried. But you didn't stop. You knew what you had to do, though the wind pried with its stiff fingers at the very foundations, though their melancholy was terrible. It was already late enough, and a wild night, and the road full of fallen branches and stones. But little by little, as you left their voices behind, the stars began to burn through the sheets of clouds, and there was a new voice which you slowly recognized as your own, that kept you company as you strode deeper and deeper into the world, determined to do the only thing you could do— determined to save the only life you could save. Guest guest
Dan Have that same issue. Read that book years ago. As a KO, the boundaries have always been weak to non existant and progress towards normal boundaries is often excruciatingly slow. The awareness of the verbal violation and the reaction time just are not there. Your acknowledgement of the difficulty is helpful to me. I do not wish to retalitate in an angry verbal asault, just > want to calmly state my opinion. My skills in keeping a bully > at bay are lacking. mg, I have a book, " The Gentle Art of Verbal Self-Defense " by Suzette Haden Elgin. It has lots of methods and exercises. It did not help me at all. I am completely unable to do the exercises. Something inside me is totally lacking. You recognized a verbal attack and changed the subject. That is the limit of what I can do, on a good day. I protect myself by staying away from people who verbally attack. The first thing nada did was to amputate the ability for verbal self- defense. It doesn't grow back. - Dan Send questions and/or concerns to ModOasis-owner " Stop Walking on Eggshells, " a primer for non-BPs, can be ordered via 1-888-35-SHELL () and for the table of contents, go to: http://www.BPDCentral.com
