Guest guest
Thank you so much for the info. I am starting to gather some of the things I need. I will get Pediasure for sure! I am getting lots of gallons of bottled water etc. Did you problems with your skin? Did you gain weight. I am overweight now and I can't imagine what all that fat will do!!! P.S. I work for The Cheesecake Factory Bakery Corp Offices with the Bakery downstairs!!! I hope that I will be able to stomache eating anything. The Riba really does me in, but I am sure that if I eat I won't have the severe issues I had before. Did you eat anything eles except the fat and insure.? But I was told to drink 64oz of liguid a day (at least) and I think they go by the weight of our bodies to the amount we should drink. As far as eating, you have to eat 20gms of fat with each dose of incivek and pretty much take your 3 doses at the same time each day. I kept a daily diary of my liquid and medicine/fat intake. Guest guest
This was my third attempt also with the first two I just had pegasys and Ribovirin and I had a really hard time with just those two. Since my incivek is done (which I had a pretty hard time and thank God it was only for 12 weeks) I can tell my skin is still sooooooooo dry as my past treatments. I also wasn't able to eat very well with just the two meds in the past but right now (being on only the two meds) I am able to eat breakfast and lunch or dinner and then I get hungry before bed which is good. Other items I ate was Stoufers fettucini, Stoufers baked spaghetti, IHop Creme Cheese pastry's are really good, Flan, Townhouse Crackers (5 crackers is 4.5 gms fat) are some other things I ate. My Mom suggested Olive Oil and Bread would be good fat items and, Oh, Key Lime Pie-2 to a pack is like 16 gms per slice..they are really good!! I did not gain weight this time bfor the only things I was eating while on Incivek was what I had to eat. I guess you could say I ate 60grams of fat daily but not much more. The positive thing for me was I didn't lose weight because I had to eat the fat. That is funny you work for the cheesecake factory (YUM) for I bought quite a bit of cheesecake as my fat intake. One thing I do want to let you know is you working and on the incivek. Hopefully you won't have a problem with your hemoglobin as I did for I could not have worked for when my hemoglobin got too low (had blood transfusions it was so bad) my body would pretty much not move. Do listen to your body for I do believe this will be our cure (most people it does work for who have had a problem being cured earier with just Pegasys and RiB). I honestly think it is positive right now you are overweight for they feel that is why I have been so sick, the amount of Ribovirin was too much for my body weight. Anything else I can help you with , please ask...no question is a stupid question. Good Luck and as Rick told me..you can do it!! Guest guest
One more thing (maybe, lol). As far as your hair, I lost a lot of mine on my second treatment, this one with the incivek I don't think I've lost much at all. I was informed by the nurse with Incivek (I called them often with updates on how their medicine was reacting with my body) that I should only wash my hair twice a week and since I do have long hair she said I shouldn't wear it in a pony tail for that will pull it out also (my hairdresser informed me awhile ago when you sleep with your hair in a ponytail it pulls a lot of hair out also). I'm not sure if that is why I haven't lost my hair this time around (yet, lol) but just a thought for you. Guest guest
Thanks, when I was on treat I lost a lot of hair, it was everywhere! I did was my hair every other day The good news is, when it grew back it grew back a lot thicker than when I started. During treatment my eyelashes got very long, like Betty Boop. When I stopped treatment, after a time they weren't so long anymore. My meds were supposed to be delivered last evening between 6 and 8 but they never arrived and the Speciality Pharmacy is closed until Monday, big concern. I have an appointmentt to go to Cedars on Monday at 11 for traning and they asked me to bring my meds.. It's going to be a long weekend!Again, thanks for th info.Steph To: "Hepatitis_C_Central " <Hepatitis_C_Central > Sent: Saturday, April 28, 2012 7:59 AM Subject: Re: Re: Starting soon One more thing (maybe, lol). Guest guest
Hey you!! I did gain weight They think it is water weight. I had to buy special lotion for my skin and I lost all my hair. I am clean though and its been almost 3 months! I feel great. I did okay the first 2 months and then every day after that it got harder. I only had to be on it for a total of 20 weeks. I was on my belly crawling to the finish line. Its worth it as of today my friend. I miss you and want to see you. Call me anytime you have my number. I will support you anyway I can. I ate a lot of cheese, pastry's, crackers, etc., all the things I stopped eating years ago to watch my weight, lol. I also bought ensure plus (that is 11 gms of fat in one) so usually I had an ensure and some sharp cheese in the am (and sometimes in the afternoon and pm meds for it was hard for me to eat).As Rick told me, when you are done with your 12 week of incivek, it will be a lot better for I can now back up Ricks news to me. Also, I pretty much did nothing for the 12 weeks on incivek. I know we are all different but do listen to your body for it is a wicked 12 weeks and if you push your body while on the incivek, it will make it that much harder on you. Good luck !!!Love,Sheila >> Hi all. I will be starting next Friday. I will receive my drugs the Friday, go in for my Doctor appointment on Wednesday at Cedars Sinai in Los Angeles for training and I should be starting on Friday May 4th. I will be taking the Incivek along with the Ribavirin and the Peginterferon Alpha-2a.> Wich me luck I had a hell of a time the first time and could only go 17 weeks.> > The information on this site has been great from everyone and based on that I will be sure to drink the water and force myself to eat.> > Looking forward to being rid of this!!> > >
Guest guest
When on the treatment with the 3 drugs, did you take the Riba at the same time as the Incivek in the morning?
Guest guest
Yes, I did. I took my meds on the following schedule (which they say an every 8 hour schedule is very important with the incivek): Everyday:9am-incivek & Ribovirin5pm-incivek & Ribovirin1am-incivek On Wednesdays:I shot of Pegasys @ 8pm (I didn't stick with 8pm but made sure I did it before bed on Wednesdays) Wednesday was my first day of medicine and they wanted me to start all 3 meds on the first day. Guest guest
Sheila and , I was thinking alot of people don't particularly care for the taste of just plain water. And I remembered one of the things that I did while on treatment was to treat myself to the flavored waters. Wal-mart,Sam's and HEB in Texas has some great flavored water with 0 calories, and 0 sugar. So it is a thought. Just a suggestion. Also I get those 0 calorie mixes that you can pour into your water bottles. I think crystle light makes some. Guest guest
You are correct Janet and also we (the doctor and I) realized that just water is not a good thing for our bodies need elecrolytes and I wasn't getting them. I have pretty much changed to gatorade and water. I also love rootbeer so I am making sure i'm not drinking the caffiene but I'm drinking caffience free diet rootbeer. All information is greatly appreciated! I love all of you very much and God bless everyone!! Guest guest
I often had nose bleeds while on treatment. A cool cloth to the back of the neck can help with the nose bleeds. And well the nausea and diarrhea. I can't say it enough ginger ale. It was my standby through treatment. In the morning have a glass of ginger ale to start your morning. And a few crackers. Diarrhea take some over the counter anti-diarrhea meds. Or you can ask your doctor to prescribe something. What your are going through is similar to what I went through. And here I am on the other side virus free. Yeah it is a tough treatment. But keep your eye on the prize. Oh yeah baby wipes for your bum. And hon, I am sorry that you are going through this. I know that you are ready to quit, because I was there myself many times. But you will make it through. Guest guest
Hey Steph,.I had the same problem except I didn't throw up. I had diareah every day and my butt hurt like it never did before (since I have completed the incivek I don't have those problems at all) and the 12 weeks will be done before you know it. I used pertroleum jelly on my butt and that made it feel better so that is a suggestion. Make sure you are drinking enough of the liguid (mine was at least 64oz of noncaffiene a day) and they say they go by the weight of our body as far as how much liguid we should make sure we take in. Do remember if you drink caffiene that will dehydrate you which will make things worse so I do advise you to stop drinking any caffiene or at least make up for the amount you do intake. I thank you for mentioning the nose bleed for I have had that problem for awhile and I thought I have made that problem and didn't realize it may be a side effect of the medicine.I know you are working and I don't know how anyone can work with these side effects. Is there a possibility you can take a leave of absence (just a suggestion). I wouldn't have made it working for I felt just as you do and working would have kicked my butt even worse. I'm still having problems with my hemoglobin (have they checked yours steph?) for that definitely brings you down big time. I get a blood test every Tuesday and my hemo was down to a 7.7 so I'm still having problems with that. Thanks for keeping us updated and ask any questions, no question is too stupid.......EVER. I thank you for mentioning the nose bleed for I have had that problem for awhile and I thought I have made that problem and didn't realize it may be a side effect of the medicine. I know you are working and I don't know how anyone can work with these side effects. Guest guest
Wow!!! Sounds like you are having a really tough time . I guess I'm a bit luckier, nausea but never did have the vomiting and I am going into wk 5. Diarrhea and constipation go hand in hand. I take Miralax and a few days later have to take Imodium. It's a roller coaster ride. Do get the sore butt, but I haven't had to really use anything. Have Preperation-H on hand and Boudreaux's Butts paste. My biggest problem is fatigue and headaches. The BP meds had to be changed a few times cause the medicine I was taking for years, Lotrel , does not work with Incivek. Guest guest
Thanks Patsy, I am done with treatment. I had an extreme reaction and that is why the dr. put a stop to it. It was a waste, because I couldn't keep any of the drugs down for even 5 minutes. That started on day 4.No reason to continue. I had got like this the last time I treated a few years ago but it started in my week 16. Guest guest
I agree with you Steph, we all know it is a hard treatment anyway but if you can't keep anything down, you would die if you kept trying. I don't know how old you are but I'm 51 and if my treatment doesn't work, I really doubt I will try a 4th time. I will just accept (which I have already done) the virus and die when I die. All of us could die from something other then Hep C and God will take care of our time when he calls, he calls. Like someone mentioned other meds are coming out and either way you decide to try them or not,,,I'm behind you 100%.Good luck in your future and we all need to still meet in New Orleans, maybe sometime next year (I will be done with my treatment in December and don't want to travel until).
